Yeah, I see the comparison, but PJ has nothing to worry about. It's not like Metallica is going to take over PJ in popularity with one album. As far as I'm concerned, Metallica should have quit in 91 and they would have went out on top.

Do you mean popularity on the board because metallica is way more popular then Pearl Jam. Sorry.

  • Yup. I hear Why Go with a little Animal intro.
  • I hear more Animal in there than Why Go
Yeah, it's like a melding of the two.

  • All the music sounds like the drums are the main focus and everything else is in the background. Rick Rubin & His Compression sucks!
A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.
  • With the exception of two (I think) quick hammer ons thrown in, this in fact IS Why Go. Same key and tempo. Just played the bassline for Why Go with whatever song number two is called playing and it matched up
  • The rift sounds similar, but there's only so many rifts before things are recyled. Pearl Jam songs rifts have ripped off just any song from 70s rock. A while back I heard the "doo do doo do doo doo dooo" from Black on the radio, turns out it was an old Rolling Stones song.

OMG - Thats such a blatent rip off - I used to be a huge metallica fan but unlike Pearl Jam they do not get better with age. They have lost direction or are unsure where they are.

Here's to you PJ - for always being faithful to the music!

There's some speculation that it will be released today, but it's just that... speculation. As far as I know, there are no leaks of this song beyond the 30 second clip from Walmart yet.

I get what you're saying. I know Metallica has a bigger fan base overall. I liked Metallica before PJ even came out. In the last 10 years, in my opinion, Pearl Jam has really done some amazing things. Metallica, not so much. And even you have to admit they lost a lot of fans along the way to this new album. I mean, you remember St. Anger? Awful. PJ will always be the underdog, but I don't think Metallica will make a comback and be as popular as they used to be. I think PJ is close to being that popular now.

thanks, I'm actually looking forward to hearing what Metallica and Rick Rubin sounds like.

I liked his work with Slayer on Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven.

  • They heard it at Bonnaroo and said " FUCK YES, that's the riff we've been looking for". Metallica were destroyed at Bonnaroo by Pearl Jam so they must have decided if you can't beat em' we'll join em'.

    I started 1 2 3 4... when I heard it.
  • sounds like somebody ate why go and then puked it back up.
    LOL win.

I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

The same argument could be made by Metallica fans that Pearl Jam has lost a ton of fans along the way (which they have).

You definitely could fit the count off in there.
