    So what's the best answer?
    Excellent question!

Previously, it seemed being "canceled" was self-inflicted. Each side would celebrate the person on the other side receiving the consequences of their actions.

Now it's evolved into amplifying someone's posts and tagging their employer to result in suspension/termination.

So, we look at freedom of speech (again) in the social media era. Freedoms of speech ≠ freedom from consequences and all that. Should people have the freedom to post what they want? Yes. Should people tag employers of people posting whatever? I don't like it and would never do that, but I guess people can.🤷‍♂️ It's up to the employer, then, to decide whether or not to discipline or terminate the person.

If you don't post something that could be deemed as a fireable offense by your employer, than you have nothing to worry about.

Although, I realize you should be able to post that your posts of opinions are yours personally and do not reflect that of your employer.

My company, pre-cancel culture, actually got ahead of this years ago. They warned people that posting on social media could be detrimental to your career, but ONLY if you freely have your workplace noted in your bio (thus you are de facto potentially representing the company), or if you say anything disparaging about the company/a fellow employee.

I think people are misinterpreting “free speech.”
Free speech was only ever meant to protect you from government prosecution. You can critique the government all you want without fear of being thrown in jail like Russia and N Korea. It was never meant to allow you to spread whatever information you want and protect your job. My employer, and pretty all much all previous ones, have always said if people can identify where I work and I make a political post, I am jeopardizing my job because my employer wants to remain politically neutral.
Which is a little funny when you think of how active school unions are in politics, but the schools themselves are required to be neutral.
Also one reason I have never revealed where I work beyond a general region.

People have misinterpreted free speech all the time. It’s hilarious/sad to me that I (a Canadian) understand your first amendment better than a good portion of Americans.

Couple thoughts here’s since we are sharing our opinions.

    1. violence is wrong, in any capacity. It’s horrible what happened to CK and Melissa Hortman, her husband and Paul Pelosi.
    2. gun violence is real and needs to be addressed just not thoughts and prayers. 100th school shooting happened on Wednesday as well not 10 miles from my house. 2 kids were shot.
    3. We need leadership that doesn’t divide us but brings us together and the current administration is the least capable of this with their disgusting rhetoric. It needs to stop.
    4. The shooter was a white young male. Not a lunatic from the left or a tranny or an immigrant but rather from a gun loving family,  young white male from a conservative family. Someone tell Nancy Mace. The kid obviously is troubled and glad he was turned in to face the charges. What he did was 1000000% wrong.
    5. Using hate speech and denouncing women, minorities, immigrants to get clicks or views does NOT make you a hero, a legend or anything to be admired.
    6. Free speech is not a pass to degrade people/groups but it should be used to inspire.
    7. Things need to change or it’s just going to get worse. violence is not the answer.
    8. Hypocrisy is real
    9. This country is a mess right now and I’m not sure how it gets better, maybe a real president gets elected or better gun laws or better mental health resources or people start denouncing hate and get a spine.
    10.  Hang the bastard
In the public square? Bring the kids to watch?
Hell to the fucking yeah. They used too back in the day.  Then maybe they'll think, oh shit, if I murder someone I might be killed myself. Not over words, over actions. Go shove another tampon up your fanny.

I came here expecting the same disgusting garbage the rest of the web has while hoping it would be a different community, but unfortunately it is what it is. Bummer. I really hoped I’d see some sort of collective come together but people are still arguing that some kid who shot a rightie must be a rightie and F trump in one way or another.

Back off the internet I go, back to my family, back to what I can consider normal life.

see y’all the next time another fellow human being gets murdered for having an opinion. Peace and love.

Another fucking thing where the fuck is the front line the poster above speaks of what front line?
The front line is the American college campus.  Who would have guessed that college students lean left? Here's a 2020 source. https://www.realcleareducation.com/articles/2020/11/25/are_students_liberal_yes__but_not_everywhere_110512.html  He was killed on a college campus, where he worked, so yes, that is the front line.
    Things were different then

yeah let's have public executions. ufc and coors could sponsor them. they could be on pay per view and trump could somehow profit off of them.

honestly i am surprised this hasn't been implemented under the current administration.

Charlie Kirk shooting suspect not cooperating with authorities, Utah governor says - https://www.reuters.com/world/us/charlie-kirk-shooting-suspect-not-cooperating-with-authorities-utah-governor-2025-09-14/

    from this article....

    citing the fbi is telling....

One person who is apparently talking to investigators is Robinson's roommate, who was also a romantic partner, Cox said, citing the FBI. Cox described the roommate as "a male transitioning to female," and said the roommate has been "incredibly cooperative."
