it's one thing to not like stage banter to hear more music. but when you out yourself as just not being aligned with what he's saying, calling him dumb in the process, yeah....no.
Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer

    1. Rambly Ed is the best Ed.
    2. I don't know what "fancy" words you'd be referring to. He's very plain spoken.
    3. Good moody Ed is Rambly Ed. I want him to be in a good mood.
    4. I don't care how long they play. I'll go and enjoy myself anyway.
    5. I don't know how long my feet will take longish shows.

Circling this back to Matt and his comment about show length and face melting 70 minute sets.  As a PJ fan, would you be ok with a 70 min face melting set or their usual 2.5 hr, sometimes 3 hr sets?  I'm undecided because when I think of 70 min face melting sets, it's upbeat bangers which would be insane to hear 70 straight minutes of PJ's heavier stuff, new and old but I think you'd miss out on songs like Present Tense that build into a heavier sound at it's peak but I wouldn't say is a heavier sounding song if that makes sense.  I know some will say they'll be happy with whatever PJ decides to do but it'd be interesting what a 70 min PJ set would actually be without factoring in venue and price which is a different animal altogether.
My face melts every time Mike shreds : ) My question is, does 70 minute facemelter mean little change throughout sets from night to night? Less change in sets provide more opportunity for 'perfection' in each song night after night.  If so, I would prefer longer, looser sets that are different every night. Just me though.
I'm pretty sure Matt was referring to his own future shows post PJ being 70-minute face melters.  Not that he wished PJ would do 70-minute sets.  Thats the way I read it initially.  I could be wrong though

Telling people to stay home or not listen when they express their opinion is the shittiest take possible. Disagreeing and stating your opposing opinion is obviously fine.
If you don’t like something why would you go? It’s a solution to his many issues. Just stay home and bitch on the internet. I was offering him an option to the talking etc. I wanted to help him. Honest to god.
No way you think telling someone to stay home if they don’t love 100% of what a band does is trying to help. Stop it.
No I won’t. It was an honest response. Stay home if it bothers you so much. It was an opinion plus the thread is about Matt. Let’s keep it focused people. This guy wanted to be heard and got an honest reply. Read it and move on.
If you actually looked, I have moved on, you're the one keeping it going now and others are simply noticing, thanks again for proving my point, much appreciated as always!
A lot of people like the talking. I just looked. Stay home buddy.

I never called him dumb or said I don't aligned with what he's saying.  I simply said some of the vocab he's using seems unnecessary to me and I sometimes I think what songs could be played instead of banter, I feel your interpretation of what I said is a bit off but no worries, you can interpret as you wish, all good, no worries.

I proposed the question as a make believe scenario more than anything else.  I realize why Matt left, my point was pretend he didn't leave and the band said, you know what, we're doing 70 min sets, how those set would look and feel like.

    1. Rambly Ed is the best Ed. - I sort of agree but at times I could do without it

    2. I don't know what "fancy" words you'd be referring to. He's very plain spoken. - it was more in reference to calling a harmonica a chromatic harp and using the word a amalgamation which I've never heard in regular everyday conversation

    3. Good moody Ed is Rambly Ed. I want him to be in a good mood. - I do to just I'd prefer a bit less of it but I don't expect it and that's ok, I know what to expect at this point

    4. I don't care how long they play. I'll go and enjoy myself anyway. - I sort of agree but the price of a 90 min show shouldn't be the same as a 2.5 hr show

    5. I don't know how long my feet will take longish shows. - Yep, my feet are barking loud at most shows nowadays, the joys of getting older, youth is wasted on the young

And I don't even know what to say about complaining that his words are too long and not simple or dumbed down enough, hahaha. I can't wait to see what people come up with next!
I understand that some might not like stage banter. I personally really enjoy it, so yay for me and everyone else who does.

Stone mentioned the setlists in PJ20...something to the effect of suggesting destroying the audience with this song, then this one, etc., and Ed said "nah...let's do these"

Angry Ed has always been the best!
Love some angry Ed too. Honestly all forms of Ed are good. Been thinking about this chat - It's wild we're kind of spoiled now by how much Ed talks. He literally used to not talk. As a teen in the 90s and being obsessed with this band, it was soooo hard to find anything on them because they rarely did interviews, or after Ten, just weren't on MTV.
There was this record store in Darien CT called Johnny's Records where I bought tapes and CDs of live shows of Pearl Jam - circa 1993-1996 or so... I would rewind and listen to the ultra rare moments where Ed actually spoke.  It was like, wow listen to that guy! I had a show from San Diego in '93 I think.  Also the now infamous Seattle Vs '93 (December) shows, I think I even had a show from the Ten tour in Europe.  Wore all those tapes out where he talked.

People also don't like the talking, I just looked, I'll be here and again, ty for proving my point of being unable to agree to disagree and be ok with it, you're a class act, again, ty!
I accept your apology. Thank you.
