i really hope PJ doesnt end because of this...
I don't think the announcements happen the way they did today if the band didn't intend to move forward without him.

Matt. You have your reasons and we all respect them. Stepping into the yield tour with a few weeks of notice. You absolutely nailed it. Pure grace and humility. A wonderful human being.  What a drummer. You reached heights we only dream of
The best of luck in the future.. what a man.

Wow - amazing contributions to the band - wishing Matt all the best.  At this stage of their lives and careers you never want to hear news like this - it can be really disruptive for any future plans the band may have been discussing - it opens the doors for others to evaluate their future now as well, truly hope this is not the case with this band.  I for one am not ready for coming to terms with the fact that my absolute favorite band may one day stop playing - we have been so spoiled by this amazing group of guys and their gift of music to us all.

I have a feeling this was in the works for a while, and the band has been planning for it. I have no insight other than my own intuition, but the timing of this announcement, 6 weeks after they wrapped their most extensive year of touring in some time, with no plans on the horizon... I think they've known about and were planning for this for some time.

Agreed. Ed alluded to this several times at Wrigley II this summer. Made several comments like you never know when it could be the last time we are here, etc.

I know how much I dislike things about modern Pearl Jam (Eddie’s onstage chit chat, Klinghoffer being there). It’s entirely possible a band member feels the same way, and quits.
Maybe, or maybe like so many other people in their 60s, the guy just wants to retire.
