In Montreal on the trans-Canada tour, I had a seat on Stone's side of the stage where I had a clear view of Matt at work. It was a different perspective for me, and I felt a special connection with the beat all night. I've seen a lot of shows, but that's one that really stayed with me. I'll miss him, and I wish Matt and the band the best as they move forward. Grateful for so many great shows.0

I think we underestimate professional musicians on here.TheLuckyOnes said:The shortest setlists hopefully were the band trying to keep things healthy for Matt. On the flipside of that tho: playing some songs differently, closer to "original" tempo or arrangement... wonder if there was any friction there. After 25 years, rework a beat you've played hundreds of times?
I just know this: new drummer, whomever that might end up being, might be able to play Evenflow, but Dark Matter songs are going to take some practice. Matt played his ass of on that album.0 -
100% I’m not a professional drummer, in fact I would say I’m incredibly mediocre and I can play to DM. Which is not to say it’s not great drumming, it is, but it’s not difficult from a technical perspective.bootlegger10 said:

You never want to be the guy after the guy.
Good luck to whoever comes next.Presidential Advice from President-Elect Mike McCready: "Are you getting something out of this all encompassing trip?"0 -
True but it still boils down to a drum part that any professional drummer will have no problem with. Just like Matt plays In My Tree a bit different from Irons there will be fills that a different drummer does that we might pick up on.Wilco87 said:

The bigger loss is Matt's song writing but I doubt that we will dwell on that too long.

Drummers are athletes. Playing at this level at age 62 is remarkable. I know there is a lot of talk about getting Jack Irons, Dave Krusen, and some other suggestions. All great drummers and no knock on their ability. I'm hoping they try to grab someone with some gas left in the tank but will also mesh with the band personalities and roles. Even if it's someone we've never heard of.11-2-2000 Portland. 12-8-2002 Seattle. 4-18-2003 Nashville. 5-30-2003 Vancouver. 10-25-2003 Bridge School. 9-2-2005 Vancouver.

As a drummer and huge PJ and Matt fan this sucks massively. I'm also a big Soundgarden fan and I feel fortunate to have seen Matt live with both bands.
Cheers Matt for everything, and good luck with any future project's!!!0 -

Yes, and I read a little more in it. It sounds like the guy is also getting inundated with requests from people to reach out to Pearl Jam, to which it sounds like in his message is a silly request of people, although he doesn’t seem to harbor any sour feelings towards the guysGet_Right said:JG242853 said:Has anyone discussed Dave Abbruzzese’s recent Facebook post about the matter?
That is just Dave looking for a job. The band discarded him many years ago. Not happening. And if it does, I will not be going.Randall's Island, NY 9/29/1996, Randall's Island, NY 6/8/1997 (Ed and Mike), Jones Beach, NY 8/23/2000, Los Angeles, CA 7/10/2006, Hartford, CT 6/27/2008, Los Angeles, CA 10/6/2009, San Diego, CA 11/21/2013, Los Angeles, CA 11/24/2013, MSG, NY 5/1/2016, Seattle, WA 8/10/2018, Los Angeles, CA 5/6/2022, Los Angeles, CA 5/7/2022, Camden, NJ 9/14/2022, St Paul 8/31/2023, St Paul 9/2/2023, Las Vegas 5/18/24, MSG NY 9/3/24, Philadelphia PA 9/9/24, Ohana CA 9/27/24, Atlanta, GA 4/29/25, Pittsburgh, PA 5/16/25, Pittsburgh, PA 5/18/250 -

Just social media noise. And Dave taking advantage of it. He is a long way from playing with Pearl Jam. If the band thought that was a possibility they would have already reached out and told him to be quiet.0 -
Respectfully, I just disagree a little on that. I don’t think he’s trying to take advantage of it, but more tell people to stop asking him to bring it up. Anyway, we will miss MFC!Get_Right said:JG242853 said:

Yeah, Get Right! You tell Stone, Jeff, Ed & Mike that you'll "discard" them the way they "discarded" Dave years ago if they make a decision about THEIR band if you disagree. That'll teach 'em.Get_Right said:JG242853 said:Has anyone discussed Dave Abbruzzese’s recent Facebook post about the matter?

It is just internet noise and Dave capitalizing on it. Do we hear anything from Jack? I am sure he is getting the same messages. But no social media posts. Maybe a reason for that.0 -
