So thankful for the last 27 years with matt. I hope they find a new drummer and continue. Would hate for the end of Pearl Jam to be because a drummer left ;)

    THANK U MFC!

Let Josh on the kit.  I'm sure he'd love to be on there.

I'm still in shock about this news. We'll see from the "more to follow" comment if he cares to share with us...but if it's as simple as retiring, he's more than earned it and I wish him all the best in his retirement :) Think about this: he was the drummer for Soundgarden AND Pearl Jam. How badass is that?
Granted, he doesn't owe us an explanation ( :D), but I'm sure at some point he'll speak more about this decision*. I don't imagine there's any great scandal or backstory... I genuinely think after 27 years, he's ready to be done, and who can blame him? I think we all agree he's earned this... It's been one hell of a run, and I'm grateful I was here for it.

*Proly not with Rolling Stone though.

100% agree, and wouldn't have expected or selfishly demanded to know - that comment just seems to suggest he wants to share at least some info later :)

Oh, I know... we're on the same page, (my comment was in reference to a weird response I got yesterday to a likeminded comment).

Truthfully, I'll be surprised if he DOESN'T speak about the decision down the road... I'm sure they all will to some extent.

It does seem like they tried to accommodate MFC with less touring and shorter set lists. My guess is that he's just done being on the road and that is the money maker for bands now.

Anyone else wake up this morning hoping all of yesterday was just a bad dream? The shock is wearing off and the sadness is kicking in.

It's hit home that while this likely isn't it someday it will all be over, I've avoided thinking about that till now

The shortest setlists hopefully were the band trying to keep things healthy for Matt. On the flipside of that tho: playing some songs differently, closer to "original" tempo or arrangement... wonder if there was any friction there.  After 25 years,  rework a beat you've played hundreds of times?

I just know this:  new drummer, whomever that might end up being, might be able to play Evenflow, but Dark Matter songs are going to take some practice. Matt played his ass of on that album.

Listened to Little Wing from the last night again and man, his drums were kicking. You will be missed, Matt!

Will miss MFC!  How about Chad Smith?
Hopefully not. I love Chad. His style butchers PJ songs. At least at the earthlings shows it did. I don’t dig it.
If we’re going to take from another band let’s get Stephen Perkins. Jane’s won’t be doing much. I think he would be a good fit. Not sure how his relationship is with the band

I hope he takes a couple years off and comes back.
I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.

The guy has been drumming at a high level for nearly 40 years and will be remembered as one of the most iconic drummers of the grunge era and rock. Amazing to think he was with SG and PJ.

Thank you for some amazing music and memories. Best wishes on whatever path you choose next. You are legend.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I'm so glad I was able to see Soundgarden....I guess I saw them three times...once in Indy a few days before Chris' last show

I just hope the next drummer is unable to play any Dark Matter songs!
And frankly, I don't go to PJ shows to focus on the drummer. It stinks that one of the guys is leaving, but drummer is most replaceable.
    Lol
Crazy, over a year on and I still absolutely love DM. Phenomenal record and one I expect they are beyond proud to have made. I still have it as their best since Yield, possibly no code.
    Same!

Danny Clinch's Instagram post wished him luck on all his projects, he is definitely not retiring unless it's retiring from touring... But again, with no known Pearl Jam tour on the horizon, what is he retiring from exactly?

I still can't believe it. There is a feeling of sadness and loss.

    All the best to Matt.

Gonna miss MFC! But if there was a chance that Barrett Martin could get the job, I would love to hear what a Pearl Jam album would sound like with him in the band.

I’m a huge Soundgarden fan as well, so I love Matt and admire him as a musician. Grateful he was there for PJ when they needed him, grateful to have seen his last show with them.
