    One of Chicago's major problems is they are surrounded by Republican gun States.

    Every state near them loves guns produces guns trades guns sellss guns give guns to their mothers gives guns to their kids gives guns to their brothers.

    Democrats should be making this argument 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They should be hitting the head over America with this argument. There's a reason why there's a lot of guns in Chicago and much less guns in New York and Los angeles. But Democrats are the stupid ones. Yes, Hal the Democrats are the stupid ones

    They're the ones that never know how to make the right argument and stick with it

    Larger as defined by per capita, yes. Larger as defined by total homicides, no. Either way, the data clearly indicates Chicago (thread specific) has a problem. It really isn’t debatable, not sure why answering a simple question is so difficult.

    I think lerxst is somewhat onto something with this. If this blue city has this huge problem, and it’s primarily the fault of the red states surrounding it and their mismanagement of guns - isn’t it a fair statement that if Democrats still get blamed for the state of Chicago, they’ve failed at communicating out the truth? 

    That said, it’s extremely hard to communicate effectively when the other side just makes shit up on a regular basis, and the news just gravitates right to the most sensational content to cover. I’m not sure what messaging strategy - besides embracing sensational lying to keep news coverage on you - is due to work. And I’m not sure that the dishonesty approach is one the party is willing to accept.

    Also, for people not from the area, its the south and southwest sides where this problem is prevalent. Decades of redlining, disinvestment in the communities (Not just employment, but third places, hospitals and grocery), and a spotty Public School system. 

    Most of the people you see online complaining about "Chicago's violence and crime" are generally safe from it and their complaints aren't really from a place of genuine concern, but to support their political teams POV.

    honestly we hardly ever hear about homicides on local news here. st louis is mostly safe as long as you know where to go.

    our cops here are too busy pulling people over for expired temporary tags and driving with a broken headlight instead of patrolling the bad areas in north city. if the cops won't go there, how will the murders there get prevented? i am sure chicago has a similar policing situation.

Homicide rates are not homicides, homicides are homicides. Maybe you meant any homicide rate is a problem? If so, then yes, 12 cities by definition do have a larger problem. If you meant what you actually said, explain how 573 is less than 377, 322, 269, etc. Put whatever political force aside that is keeping you from answering a yes or no question and look at the data objectively. Now, do you agree Chicago has a homicide problem?

Nothing’s inconsistent in what I’m saying, and when you’re comparing cities/regions on a metric, rate is used for the sake of rational objectivity and accuracy. LA has a homicide problem that is much less than Chicago’s, St Louis has a homicide problem that’s worse.

    Every state near them loves guns produces guns trades guns sellss guns give guns to their mothers gives guns to their kids gives guns to their brothers.

    Democrats should be making this argument 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They should be hitting the head over America with this argument. There's a reason why there's a lot of guns in Chicago and much less guns in New York and Los angeles. But Democrats are the stupid ones. Yes, Hal the Democrats are the stupid ones

    They're the ones that never know how to make the right argument and stick with it
    Red states around IL hand out guns like candy, but its the Democrats not communicating well makes them the stupid ones? Do you listen to yourself?

    People getting defensive about murder depending on what color the state votes is wild. Dem voters/republican voters both do it and it’s insane. If Chicago was a red state, this thread would be drastically different. Acting like republicans would do any better controlling the most densely populated cities is crazy. Exploiting homicide to send in the national guard and act like a hero is crazy. Everything is Weird to me. Whatever i guess
