My mother's family is mainly from Russia and Eastern Europe, and my father's family is mainly from Eastern Europe (not sure of the all the exact countries). I think my great-grandparent's came to the U.S. in the late 1800s/early 1900s. My mother's parent's were born in Boston, and my father's parents were born in NYC - so I am 3rd generation American born.
I'm the same, though maybe fourth-generation. I'm told at some point family members lived in Odessa in the Ukraine.

We can trace my dad’s side back a few hundred years. Sir Walter Scott (Ivanhoe) is my great x4 uncle. So we’ve got a lot of that European English/scottish/Irish mixed in. And can trace back about 5 generations in Tennessee and Alabama can. Since moving to TN a few years ago we’ve been digging into the history more. One great-great grandpa founded Scottsborro (hens the surname Scott) in Alabama and was in politics a while. Another one was a farmer and was killed when the Yankees came through in the civil war.
back about 4 or 5 generations on my mom’s side they came over during the Irish potato famine. 2 brothers came over together. When they got off the boat in New York they were awe struck at the sight of the city, lost sight of each other and never saw each other again.
Right now someone else is telling the story how his great great great grandpa ditched his loser brother in New York.
