I did 23andMe, and there were no interesting surprises. I am 99.9% British.
The other 0.1% is Northern African (white).
To make myself feel better, I will mention that my boring ethnic background actually does contain an absolutely fascinating genealogical/historical background. My genealogy has been meticulously traced through decades of extremely hard work and travel on my mother's side, back to the l2th Century. I've got a direct documented bloodline to Robert the Bruce - he's a great grandfather times however many times along the Stewart line, which means there are many other significant historical figures in the line as well, including James I and II... and including one particularly nefarious one known as the Wolf of Badenach, which i find fascinating. Otherwise know as Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, 4th son of King Robert II. He was a horrible plunderer who deserved the nickname - practically a serial killer in a way. I've got a dark streak, so I have always been interested about that particular ancestor, lol.
I'm sure many of you are are my distant cousins! Those Stewarts were prolific!

Yes indeed, Rob. The Amish church originated in Switzerland when in 1693, a group split off from the Swiss and Alsatian Mennonite Anabaptists. They spread into Germany as well, and by the early 18th century, many began to immigrate to Pennsylvania.

I consider myself 100% Welsh, born and raised, but there is a caveat to that. My Mum’s side is Welsh as far back as anyone has looked. My Dad’s mother was Welsh, and his father was English, which should make me 1/4 English. However, my Dad’s father died about a month before my Dad was born, so he’s only ever known his Welsh side.
I live in Sydney now and my wife is Australian, so that’s broken the 100% line for sure. Our son used to refer to himself as half dragon, half kangaroo!

From what I know, it's mainly English and Scottish. There may be others, but the only non English/Scottish is a great (x3 or x4) grandmother who was Cherokee. It's not enough to be recognized by the tribe though. It's sad, but the culture and customs were never passed down in the family so I wouldn't try to claim anything even if I could. In the 60s and 70s, a retired man with my surname decided to compile a complete list of people with my surname (it's not very common, but still...that's a lot of work). Apparently there is some debate on the validity of his research; however, from talking with my grandfather, I can verify the research for our line back to the early 1800s. Before that gets kind of muddled, but if you believe the researcher, we can all be traced to 3 brothers who immigrated to present-day Delaware from England in 1666. Funny enough, the last update to the list was in 1982, the year before I was born. The running joke in my immediate family is that I don't actually exist since I'm not in the book lol.
