It's almost as if....and hear me out....Elon Musk is a bad judge of character because....just perhaps....he lacks character.
I would characterize this as a positive spin. Because when I started reading the sentence, I thought it was going to be. “It’s almost as if… Elon Musk is intentionally hiring cyber criminals so he can take everything over.”
in other words, I think he judged the character of the people he brought in just fine. He knows what he’s doing.

USAID
was investigating its relationship with Starlink just months before
tech billionaire Elon Musk attempted to shut the agency down, according
to reports.
The freezes and cuts to the foreign aid department, spearheaded by Musk
as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), raise
questions of a potential conflict of interest, as Musk is the owner of
Starlink, a subsidiary of his company SpaceX.
Newsweek contacted Elon Musk and Starlink through SpaceX via email.
Why It Matters
Fears that Musk and others could use their positions in government to benefit themselves have been around since President Donald Trump
won the 2024 election. The move to dismantle USAID is the first major
policy decision Musk has made, and the way it is handled will be
indicative of how powerful he will be over the next four years.

A young technologist known online as “Big Balls,” who works for Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),
has access to sensitive US government systems. But his professional and
online history call into question whether he would pass the background
check typically required to obtain security clearances, security experts

Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old high

last four years, with entities registered in Connecticut, Delaware, and
the United Kingdom, most of which were not listed on his now-deleted
LinkedIn profile. Coristine also briefly worked in 2022 at Path Network,
a network monitoring firm known for hiring reformed blackhat hackers.
Someone using a Telegram handle tied to Coristine also solicited a
cyberattack-for-hire service later that year.

The best computer peeps are usually hackers. Why wouldnt you want to hire them? Nothing burger for me here.
I'm curious as to why, if they, DOGE, really want to save money, look at what we spend the most on? Military. They ae looking to shut down bases which makes zero sense to me. Those are strategic places of interest. Unless u want to nuke everyone we need those bases.

If they were reportedly responsible for a cyberattack for hire, it doesn’t suggest integrity or strength of character. Hire him for a cybersecurity company, sure, but letting him into the government? Well, not like any of us have a say anyways, so let’s just see how this goes. Hope for the best and anticipate the worst to temper expectations, that’s my MO for the next four years.

yeah or evaluate how "efficient" it is to spend millions for the president to attend a football game...that's why no other president has attended. It's too fucking expensive and too risky due to security issues.
or....how efficient is it to travel to maralago every weekend and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel, room and board, for secret service agents. There should be an allowance that, if exceeded, falls back on Mr Moneybags. Let him pay for it like he said he would eight years ago.

& people are still going to try to have good faith conversations that these guys are looking to reign in wasteful spending despite all this evidence to the contrary.
My attitude is that of Benjs, there's little we can do about it now besides hope for the best, but that doesn't make the willful ignorance any less frustrating.

Yeah it's going to be a weird period of time. They haven't even been doing this for more than a few weeks and they are already throwing around the "fraud" accusations. No way they could determine if anything is fraudulent at this point. It's just bullshit but yeah...not a thing that we can do about it.
Yesterday I kept seeing all kinds of shit about Musk spending $40mil to run Superbowl ads about the "fraud" they were uncovering. Nothing Musk said...just shit generated online that, once again, turns out to be bullshit.

I was thinking about the extravagant lift it must be for a president to attend that game when I was watching last night. Unfortunately it seems people really don't care about those expenses because our president should be able to live like a king while in office. That's how he views it. He wouldn't have gone if it was a blue state. He goes so the Mahomes' family can get some selfies for their MAGA support and then salutes for the anthem like he has some sort of military history. He just wastes tax payers money constantly.
