Do you not thank your waitress? They signed up for it, and I pay them to do it, but I still thank my waitress every time they bring something by. I don't understand the logic that since they signed up for a job most of us wouldn't want, they don't deserved to be thanked.Gern Blansten said:

There's lots of jobs I wouldn't want, and I don't thank them. I thank my waitress because she personally serves me. I don't thank all waitresses in general for their service.
There's a lot of shit cops out there. Just like in any profession. The good ones deserve to be thanked. But this idea that a blanket thank you is deserved when many are asses and some don't do anything but traffic tickets, is odd to me.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
If they do something for me sure...I thank them every time.mace1229 said:

That does raise another angle that needs to be addressed then: enforcement of those conditions. Have we gotten the toxicology tests back yet?HughFreakingDillon said:He was, but bail in this situation is pretty standard. It's easy to point fingers in hindsight, but you can't deny bail to every single person accused of assault.Court records show 26-year-old Tyrone Simard was charged with assault with a weapon and mischief for alleged offences that happened June 8.
The records show a Winnipeg court granted his release June 12 with various conditions, including a curfew and an order to not use drugs or alcohol or possess weapons.
Assault with a weapon is much more serious than “simple” assault to most people.
In the end, though, the simple fact remains, he intentionally killed someone with a weapon while he was out on conditions that should have prevented the second incident. So another black mark on our bail system.
Getting back on topic, with Canadian bail as a backdrop, I completely understand the police if they feel a sense of futility as they perform their duties."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

the problem with enforcing those conditions is largely based on the offender abiding by them. Which I would guess most do. But the ones that don't, you only know that when they commit another crime. Time machines would be fabulous (or a Minority Report-which I'd say now is likely an unfortunately named movie lol).DarthMaeglin said:

Do you thank every person you run into on the street? Give it a rest.
Thats fine if you don't want to thank every cop, if you think enough of them are in it for the wrong reasons or aren't good at their job. Or you had some bad experiences. But just based on because they signed up for it they don't deserved to be thanked, is what I disagree with.
I don't thank everyone on the street, but I generally thank public service people (I don't flag them down and stop them, but if their standing next to me in line to order I will) who have a high risk of danger and have what I perceive as a difficult job; police, fire, military, etc.
I guess the timing of the comment was odd to me. Someone posted a cop who was rushed with a knife and that we should thank them because many have experienced something like that, and the response is ehhh...they signed up.Post edited by mace1229 on0 -
the comment was essentially "thank every cop cuz this cop went through this". Which is what the pushback was on.mace1229 said:

When any “crime incident” is politicized to blame one race over another and an elected leader speaks to an incident as “a war on white people,” I’m disgusted. Any of my thoughts on crime prevention, rehabilitation and punishment would be lost on someone such as yourself who chose to personally attack me, seemingly not having read the full content of Shecky’s post, rather than “discuss the incident.”nicknyr15 said:

Personally attack? Hilarious coming from you. Any of my thoughts would be lost on someone like you. Just look at that last paragraph. Same old same old.Halifax2TheMax said:
When any “crime incident” is politicized to blame one race over another and an elected leader speaks to an incident as “a war on white people,” I’m disgusted. Any of my thoughts on crime prevention, rehabilitation and punishment would be lost on someone such as yourself who chose to personally attack me, seemingly not having read the full content of Shecky’s post, rather than “discuss the incident.”nicknyr15 said:
How about discussing the incident? You have any thoughts on how to handle people, NO MATTER THE COLOR, that break the law 10,15,20,40 times? I don’t have the answer. But I’m sure you do? At least thoughts and prayers for the victim and their family?Halifax2TheMax said:
Except stupid believes it and half of my comment came from shecky’s post. Stupid indeed. And let’s not pretend that the “white replacement theory” isn’t a thing.nicknyr15 said:
For someone who calls everyone else stupid…… that’s some comment.Halifax2TheMax said:
War on white people. All part of the white replacement plan.shecky said:What the f*ck is going on? All of these perpetrators have lengthy rap sheets. Lock 'em up! FOREVER!

I suppose if the victim could have open carried maybe she’d be alive and the perp dead? Or maybe if the national guard was riding the rails as opposed to picking up trash, she’d be alive? What are your thoughts on the incident seeing how you’re so interested in mine?0 -
Except of course people do that with teachers....even though there are shitty ass teachers out there.HughFreakingDillon said:There's lots of jobs I wouldn't want, and I don't thank them. I thank my waitress because she personally serves me. I don't thank all waitresses in general for their service.
There's a lot of shit cops out there. Just like in any profession. The good ones deserve to be thanked. But this idea that a blanket thank you is deserved when many are asses and some don't do anything but traffic tickets, is odd to me.hippiemom = goodness0 -
They are all arrested for murder, so they probably will be? I’m not sure what you need from us.shecky said:What the f*ck is going on? All of these perpetrators have lengthy rap sheets. Lock 'em up! FOREVER!
