I think this cuts to the heart of it... I've found that the last 4 years have been nice in that we aren't waking up every morning wondering "what did that asshole do now?", but I'm realizing I'm in the minority.Gern Blansten said:
I'm sure you fell the same but I can't even describe the feeling of knowing millions of people are ok with his baggage. My two younger daughters are just blown away by how that can be overlooked by voters let alone the party itself.cincybearcat said:

Was listening to Morning Joe a bit this morning. While the economic #'s are pretty good, the economic #'s people feel every day at the grocery store are not. And it's real. It's disappointing to me how voters rarely go past the initial layer of any issue....but it is the cas ein many situations. And the prices of goods (especially food) had a lot to do with Trump's election it seems. These people aren't ignorant...but they sure are ignoring a lot of flashing red warning signs just to vote out the party that made Eggs expensive.Gern Blansten said:
When is anyone ever less distressed about their everyday life though? Our economy is doing very well right now and the incumbent party got booted because the perception is that things are awful.Spiritual_Chaos said:
It will be easier by itself when people are less distressed in their everyday life about the economy and surviving. Then they can raise their eyes a bit and be less ego and shortsighted.Gern Blansten said:I think some of my posts over the last few months will show this. I have been saying that if trump wins it is because the electorate is just too fucking ignorant.
How do we recover from that? How does an opposition party combat complete ignorance of an electorate influenced by memes rather than actual facts? These people do not listen to in depth discussions of important topics, they vote strictly on outrage.
Thinks like this accelerate when society is going through a crisis and people therefore feel unsecure. See: Germany in the 30s
At the same time. Making people be less ego, shortsighted and racist takes effort. And I heard that youtuber Hasan once talk about how young men online is only met by a huge right wing space (whether that is Joe Rogan or Tim Pool or whoever) and the left has lost the fight of being an option. Ego and othering rules the day.
And effects of climate change etc, won't make the above easier over time ofc.
The GOP party is to blame. All for power. Trump is just a fucking actor...and he's very good, I'll give him that. He knows absolutely nothing about policy. It's all performance.
Americans don't want boredom, they want drama. They want a president who makes funny speeches that make them laugh. They want Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off... they want to be entertained.

Don't worry. In February, X will be full of four-bag hauls for $42.50 that were $204.65 just four months ago!cincybearcat said:

I don't believe 100% of trump voters are racist or misogynistic (although his blatant racism and misogyny weren't deal breakers for them, so voting for him IS a tacit approval of that behavior) but a vote for trump based on the economy is, by definition, ignorance, both to the nature of our capitalist society and what has happened around the globe these last few years.Post edited by Merkin Baller on0 -

Guys the economy sucks, everything costs more than four years ago. I can't leave the grocery store without spending $300; it was no where near that four years ago. The buck stops somewhere and unfortunately Harris was attached to it.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0

I've been of the opinion that we need to put a massive amount of money to education.
Indiana is generally run by republicans. They are really good at refunding tax surpluses rather than utilizing the money toward roads or schools. All so that when they run for office again they can brag about that $100 surplus refund you received.
It's always funny to me to enter Indiana from OH, KY or IL and immediately see the difference in our roads and medians. Roads suck and the medians are weed ridden and overgrown.Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

The perception is bad because car prices are up 25%. Grocery prices are way up. You're going to pay 2-3 times the mortgage if you buy a home today compared to 5 years ago. Insurance costs have skyrocketed.
There are a lot of people who are financially worse of today than they were 5 years ago.
You can argue who is and is not responsible, but I think downplaying the effects hurt.Post edited by mace1229 on0 -

Don't think it will. They will swallow any reason he gives for it not happening. Suddenly inflation not being tied to a single nation will be accepted. While it wasn't (if they understood that) under Biden.Hawk123 said:

If we didn't already own a home prior to 2019, I don't think I could ever afford one in my lifetime. I don't know how younger couples are going to any time soon. In many parts of the country the average home, with insurance, taxes, higher interest rates, etc, is going to be more than the entire paycheck of a new teacher. So a young couple where both are teachers, or both have similar salaries, it will take the entire paycheck of one and a portion of the other to just pay their mortgage.
New car prices rises 25% in 5 years isn't normal. Which has also created a domino effect of cars lasting longer on the road, meaning more repairs and higher maintenance costs and increasing the cost of used cars.
Grocery prices rising nearly 30% in 5 years is not normal.
None of these things are things that "normally happen in our economy." And calming it is is just downplaying it.
Now, like I said, You can argue the causes. And I would agree covid is a huge factor. But just telling people it's not as bad as you think it is over and over again probably cost them the election.Post edited by mace1229 on0 -
There's no single reason why Harris lost this campaign, despite what all the electioneering experts here & elsewhere claim.
It was a combination of factors, including, yes, disinformation and ignorance.
There are plenty of things democrats could and should have done differently, but in the end, people wanted trump. This is what America wants, this is who we are.

This reads like the memes I see though. A friend had posted a list of groceries with prices now vs four years ago....he had milk at $5/gallon now and $2.50 then. Someone commented by screenshotting a gallon of milk at WalMart for $2.99 current price.mace1229 said:

maybe...or at least not spelling out why these things occurred.mace1229 said:
Depends on how you measure the economy.Gern Blansten said:
You can argue who is and is not responsible, but I think downplaying the effects hurt.
These are the topics that I was seeing constantly in my tiktok feed...just bullshit clips blaming Harris/Biden, etc., for things that normally happen in our economy. Once again...ignorance. When the majority of the electorate is ignorant and the news they receive is false we get trump as the result.
It's very concerning to me.

Especially when there was a stain of Biden trying to stay on (with Kamala supporting him) instead of pro-actively addressing leaving (in time). Less credibility.OnWis97 said:
