Extremely rude merch person at Fenway

Wanted to post this. Hoping someone who handles merch for the band sees it:

This is my 13th show on this tour and I've never encountered a merch experience like I had today. The merch people have always been so nice. But today as I was buying merch the person helping me had an attitude from the get go. Every time I asked him for something I needed (sighing and rolling his eyes.) I said to him "What is your problem?" He responded "You are my problem." I was in SHOCK. I wasn't doing anything but trying to buy merch.

I had my own poster tube and every time I tried to roll my posters up into my tube he would yell at me "You can't do that here!" When he gave me my total he refused to let me look at the screen to double check things which I have always done. When I again asked him why he had an attitude he yelled "Fuck off!" I could not believe it. I was looking around for some sort of authority because I could not believe this person was talking to me this way. Then what seemed to be his supervisor looking on said "Get your stuff and get out of here! And you better not come back tomorrow!" I was in SHOCK. I had no idea what I had done and the cashier behind the counter continued to tell me to "fuck off" and leave. It was literally one of the craziest experiences I have ever had at a Pearl Jam show.

AND THEN: After the show on Sunday I was walking past the merch table again. It was late, like almost midnight I think. No one was there.  As I was walking past I saw this kid again. I didn't say anything and he looked at me from behind the merch table and said "Bitch motherfucker!"  I confronted him and he literally ran away to the back.

If I was behind you and you were rolling posters I would be pissed. They have tables for that....or at least they did at Wrigley

I mean, that point aside, theres no reason for this merch person to be so extreme towards a fan.
OP, I would have asked to speak w/ Chris or one of the managers. Sorry to hear you had to experience this. You could always send a DM to TSRUT on Instagram and let him know. Ultimately these are people working for him.

Honestly, if there was a second party also asking you to leave I have a hard time believing you weren’t doing anything to make this person feel uncomfortable. Definitely two sides to this story. Nonetheless, you didn’t deserve to be spoken to that way.

I mentioned it next day thinking maybe they’d be cool based on repeat customer status lol.  Rude person named Amanda told me why would I give u the merch, people lie, and it comes out of her pocket.  I could’ve really gotten into it with her but didn’t want to let her ruin my day.  Not sure if they’re Fenway people working or merch people.

I need the merch guys perspective. I can imagine PJ fans being very annoying, especially at the merch table. Mr Tsurt only cares about selling your 40 USD shirts that last 1 wash.

    Questions ...

How many posters did you get? And were you rolling them all on their counter?

Didn't they have tables close by the merch area to roll up your posters after you pay? Every early merch event I went to, we paid and took our posters to the table on the side. Though the Pearl Jam shows I went to only had one poster.

Did you try to roll up all 5 or yet 10 posters on the merch counter?

I'm with Amanda on this one. No real reason for them to believe you.

The merch stand at the corner of Jersey and Van Ness definitely had an area to roll posters.

  • Regardless if you’re rolling a poster or a dubbie no reason to talk to someone like that. It’s bad customer service.

There are always two sides to every story. As surly as some people in Boston are, I find it hard to believe that the merch guy would get so pissed for the nothing that the OP has posted about his own behavior. The rolling the posters while blocking everyone else waiting to buy merch is a big clue as to the likely recurring theme of this incident...
