Someone in my group has never been to Chicago before and wants one of the famous hot dogs.  Where would locals recommend we get that?

Can do a lot better than Portillos.

Byrons or Fatsos (prob my favorite). Swing by Jim’s Original for a Polish as well.

Portillos is a fast food joint. Probably the most overhyped food on earth honestly.

Is 7:35 am too early for Chicago Dog? Just asking for a friend.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

I think Byron's is just around the corner from where we're staying. Might try that one since it so close.

I live a few blocks from Gene & Judes.
And while I will say it's a very good hot dog, I just don't get the legendary status it receives. Any and every Chicago dog MUST have a pickle spear on it to truly be a classic Chicago hot dog. Gene & Judes doesn't offer the pickle spear? Ludicrous.

We plan on getting a couple at some point this weekend, possibly Portillos. I will not be getting one at the show. Last Fall we went to the PJ day Cubs game when they they were playing the UC. I got a hot dog during the game and regretted it. I felt sick enough later that day that I skipped dinner. The next day I still felt sick through out the day and contemplated not going to the show that night. Fortunately by the time we were going to leave for the show I was feeling a little better.

I think Byron's is the best option for proximity to Wrigley.  But if it's after midnight the answer is Wieners Circle for the pure chaos :)

The Grilled Dogs, with grilled onions, at Wrigley, are outstanding. You just have to make sure it's from one of the vendors where they are grilling the dogs right in front of your face. Do not get a Wrigley dog from a vendor walking around, or from a beer stand selling peanuts and popcorn.

    Hmmm. That was my mistake.

The Grilled dog is really really good. And if they have those grills open tonight, your nose will lead you right to the stand. But honestly, I'm not sure all vendors are open for a concert. But again, right when you walk the lower concourse, you should get a whiff of those dogs grilling.

Wrigleyville Dogs, Clark Street Dogs, and The Weiners Circle are all within range of Wrigley.  With the Weiners Circle being the furthest.

I have had my share of dogs in Chicago. I like them in general. It is unique. Please tell me why you boil or steam a 1/4 lb. dog? I think Superdawg was the best I had, but it still kept me asking. Why not put it on the flat top?

All of the strong opinions in this thread are hilarious. Over on the West Coast we get our dogs from the carts selling Tijuana street dogs outside the the arena/stadium. Some day I will get a proper Chicago dog and a NY slice. Never had those and I want to be able to argue with people about the best ones.  ;)
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

Shut up and just get the crab at Swan's. It is better than the Chicago dog or the NY slice. I told my brother (longtime SF resident) that the crab there might even be better than Maine lobster. Do not even get me started on Tomales Bay oysters.
