I liked Gigaton a bit better than DM.  But DM is a solid album.  I like it better than Lightning Bolt, Backspacer, and Avocado.

    I would predict a 2023-type year.  Detroit/OH/Pittsburgh, Carolinas/SE.
I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.
  • I also prefer Gigaton but apparently that is absurd according to the Robert Christgau society in here. I must be doubly stupid because I saw the Green Day show this summer and it was fucking great

I liked Gigaton much better than BS and LB but DM exceeds it in my opinion.

I have a dividing line after Avocado and DM is the best since.
Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)
The Golden Age is 2 months away. And guess what….. you’re gonna love it! (teskeinc 11.19.24)

I have a similar feeling.  Anything Avacado and before is a different level.  Gigaton and DM are close and I like both.  LB is my least favorite.  I still find it really interesting the wide range of opinions on DM.  I get there have been differing opinions on other albums but have not seen so many that think it is one of their best of all time to being a good album but not great.  It will be interesting to see if this changes in a couple years.

Setting Sun was sounding inspiring as a drove through the countryside with the fall colors this morning..as soon as Ed goes into if you could see..goosebumps.

I shouldn’t have made my comment sound so negative, but the new Green Day album is to me their best since American Idiot. Definitely my most played record in the last year. Dark Matter on the other hand is the weakest album PJ have put out. But I think I’m probably the only PJ fan alive who thinks that.
Saying Dark Matter is weaker than Gigaton as a fan of music is just absurd
Dark Matter is a god damn masterpiece compared to Lightning Bolt.
How blessed are we as a fanbase that the consensus worst album, Lightning Bolt, is still pretty fucking awesome?

(I don't think Lightning Bolt is their worst, but I digress)

New Green Day album was terrible imho. Also get second hand embarrassment looking at them. You can still maintain the punk aesthetic while acknowledging you're no longer in your late tweens or early twenties--just look at the other Bay Area bands. Ticket prices seem good though.
New Green Day album is great. Much better than Dark Matter.
    They are both great

I like Green Day just fine, just not saviors. In re: American Idiot, it's a little hard for me to take that song in particular too seriously when Bad Religion did a much better version of it a decade earlier.

If I was a betting man, I'd say better than the leafs making it past the first round!
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

Hang in there, pal.  You still have value as a person even if you like an inferior album like Gigaton over Dark Matter.

Never Destination - country fair fare
Comes then Goes - snooze fest
    SBWM - what?
Take the Long Way - blah lyrics
Alright - okay for a few listens but no indifference
River Cross - okay for a few listens

    Just too many blah songs.

    Definitely accurate
  • Nothing on Gigaton is as insipid as Something Special, which is around "Butterfly Kisses" on the schmaltz scale. Running is mid, with terrible lyrics, Wreckage is barely warmed over Heartbreakers, and React Respond is paint by numbers PJ.

I was whatever on Running as a single but it works extremely well if you listen to Won't Tell through Running as one chunk

Paint by Numbers PJ is why we fell in love with the band.

Mike’s guitar on the lead-up to the chorus is my favorite part of the album.   That double note run similar to Baba intro.

But then Something Special works very well after Running, and flows so good with Got To Give and then Setting Sun.

In fact, Scared of Fear flows extremely well in to Setting Sun as one chunk.

That bass and guitar intro to Something Special is so good.  Got that 90s groove and it's really cool.  I especially enjoyed watching this song performed live at LA1, and Josh stood out really grooving.  I learned that Josh was a co-writer on this track.

Josh with the hat, grooving out.  Just too cool for all you people that dislike the groove.

    You mean yield.   Fixed.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......
  • From a business perspective, it would be really dumb for the band to skip South America when they haven’t been there post-covid. There’s also just so many places they haven’t played. That’s why I was so happy about the 2023 tour. Although short, they scheduled to play places that were over-due and doubled them up. Even Chicago….United Center since 2009.

  • Please return to Texas!  The Austin venue was awesome on UT's campus last year.  PJ hasn't been to Houston since the early 90's - Houston is America's 4th largest city with an incredible outdoor venue in the Woodlands where Dave Mathews Band has routinely jammed for decades.

While they haven't played Houston proper since the early 90's, they've played the Woodlands 3 times in the 2000's. I'll agree not going back since 2003, almost 22 years, is a travesty.
  • Houston is massive, its wild to me how many acts skip right over it

Thanks for the correction.  I didn't realize they played the Woodlands - I wasn't a concert goer in the early 2000s.  Come back to Texas in 2025 PJ!
