Eddie was pretty direct about it being a year or two. I know you can’t take his word most of the time at face value but Sunday night really felt like a farewell….whereas Austin 2 2023 and Denver 2022 did not feel that way at all

Because they sold enough tokens/posters/hats/shirts this month to supplement their time off. Haha

They're not burnt out enough for side projects. I suspect we'll get plenty of them in the next 1-2 years. They're always doing something, whether together or as a side project.

    Time off = studio time.

I think that's what it comes down to. They want/need to retreat in order to work on the next album. If they keep touring Dark Matter, they end up with a Lightning Bolt situation where we go 5+ years without a new album. In my worst-case scenario, we get the new album in spring of 2027 and that's four years between album releases.

    This.

He was direct/honest during the final Fenway 2018 show as well.

Hunker down, go find some other stuff to listen to or listen to the PJ boots and whatever music comes from the individual members the next year or two. It's gonna be a while until the Pearl Jam machine rides again.

I’d be surprised if we don’t get something like ‘23 or this year in ‘26. They have to pay the bills.

Yes because the $100 million they made off the Dark Matter tour is not enough to live for a year or two. We have been lucky with tours during the past three years. I would not be surprised if they take two years off.

Unless I'm misremembering, which is always possible, the 2018 comparisons aren't apples to apples. What he said in 2018 was that the next time they played together would be in the studio, not that they weren't going to tour for awhile. Fans took it to mean that because 2019 came and went and then COVID postponed 2020, but Ed said nothing about any of that at Fenway.

Sunday night was different. Sunday night was definitely them ending one tour and taking a break before the next.

I think they are most certainly taking a well deserved break. However, I would be surprised if we don’t see/ hear from the band before 2027. Jeff had some great remarks at the end of the Rick Beato interview about life and loss.  He talks about how he would drop anything to play with the guys, not taking the time they have together for granted, etc. I thought it was really genuine/ powerful message. Mike also agreed that he’s at his best when they are all together. They’ve got a ton of great momentum going right now. I think they’ll build on that.

I have a hard time seeing them take the entirety of 2026 off.  I have no inside knowledge would guess we get shows in the last third or quarter of 2026.  Hopefully this break looks something like 2010-2011.  Canada and South America hopefully get shows and UK/EU are deserving as well.

I remember in Chicago 2016, Boston 2018 and Denver 2022 feeling uncertain about when we would see the band again.  Chicago 2016 it was nearly two years until EU 2018, Denver turned out to be about a year and Boston turned out to be three years due to COVID.

I am glad he was clear about this. I am always hesitant to make big travel plans until I know what PJ is going to do because I don't want to miss anything I could reasonably get to. This gives me the freedom to do some other stuff and not have that lingering worry.

Sooooo...does one begin a 2026 thread or does he wait until 2025 Ed & Earthlings dates are announced?
I am skeptical about 2025 EV dates

I hope the intel is off and things change but it is seeming like Europeans may have a little wait to endure until we see the band again. If the band are downing tools for 1-2 years that realistically rules out summer 2026. so perhaps it will be 2027 until the boys return. That would be a blow, they aint getting any younger so the concept of not having many more chances to see them tour over here becomes real and painful.

He could have meant 1-2 years in the US…. Also next June/July is 1-2 years away
