I went to listen to the TS album but got distracted that there's a new Local Natives album. It's "Johnny Abruzzo's Music" Day.

I am lucky enough to be seeing both TS and PJ in Dublin the same week this summer. Have not made it through TTPD, but listened to a few, and skimmed some others, and can confidently say I believe I will be enjoying Dark Matter more even after several listens of both. To each their own though!
words seem so out of place.

How does anyone have a considered opinion on this question?! These albums have been out for less than 12 hours.
The only comparison I'm capable of making at this point on this subject is that Pearl Jam is my favorite band, and I really loved Gigaton, but Folklore was the best album of 2020.
2020 had a lot of tough competition, I’d put both Inlet & Fetch the Bolt Cutters above Giga and Folklore
Won’t really listen to TS but that album will make 10x more money than PJ soooooo she wins

I don’t listen to Swift but can someone explain what went down with the whole double album? Like if you bought the album did it secretly have 2 discs, or did you just buy disc 1 and then she releases disc 2 at 2am and you have to buy that separately? Just curious cause I’m not in that world.
My opinion is that Taylor needs an editor. She throws a lot of music at people but she could benefit from trimming all the fat and delivering a solid 10 song album. It all just sounds so repetitive at this point, but her fans eat it up so she keeps cashing in. So glad PJ starves us a little

I am unsure if we're actually getting 2 records. I suspect it's just the digital versions, until she wants more sales and puts out the extended deluxo version on vinyl. Evidently, she's been hinting about the double for weeks. She's held up peace signs in photos, pictures with clocks at 2:00, etc. This is the stuff she has fun doing and her rabid fans search for clues. I don't have the time or will to unravel her puzzles.

She announced the record back in Feb. The album dropped at midnight. 2 hours later she said there’s a whole other disc of 15 more tracks). As of now it’s streaming/mp3s only. No physical. Yet. If you Pod the record you got just the first disc.

Taylor's 11th album in 18 yrs. Pearl Jam's 12th album after 33 years. Would love if PJ were as prolific as Taylor!
And that's not even counting the rerecordings that each come with a full album's worth of extra songs. She has nine releases, including the rerecordings, in five years. She's as prolific as Prince was, but Prince had some misfires. I haven't heard the new album yet, but I don't think she's had a misfire yet.

Naw. I didn't fuck with that either. Just give me the damn music. Some people dig stuff like that. I don't find that stuff fun at all. I'd rather create some new art or drink a good beer...

Just back here to contradict my previous statement. Part 2 of TTPD is great. Aaron Dessner’s songs mostly sound like if Folklore and 1989 had a baby.
I wish you hadn't said this. As these are digital-only and I don't really have a convenient way to listen to them, I was going to hold off on engaging with them until the inevitable physical release, but your description is going to make it hard to wait for them.

I think she sustains the quality pretty well across these sprawling releases, generally speaking (although I haven't heard this one yet), but part of what motivates this excessive number of tracks is the broken Billboard chart formula that allows every song to chart whether it's a single or not. So, next week, she'll set a new "record" with 31 songs on the Hot 100. And the surplus tracks also goose the album "equivalent units."
I'm a pretty avid music listener, but even I would have trouble digesting 31 tracks dropped at the same time, without even accounting for the fact that there's a new Pearl Jam album that will definitely be getting at least one listen a day for months. I think back to when Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II were released, but I had a 75-minute subway commute each day so I had no problem listening to them in their entirety every day for a period of months. That's much harder for me to accomplish now.
The funny part is that Ed's daughters would almost certainly choose Taylor
Olivia Vedder was at the Dark Matter listening party at Fingerprints in Long Beach, but his other daughter (Harper?) was nowhere to be seen. You may be onto something.
