I don't know how many times I've played this song as I fall to sleep at night. Just caps off the day perfectly. It has my favorite lyric of the whole album. "They say in the end everything will be ok, and if it's not ok well then it ain't the end."

I wanna see more Pearl Jam shows end with Setting Sun.
Come out to the 2025 shows for a chance.
Hopefully they will add more shows this summer & fall.
LOVED seeing them close with Setting Sun in Seattle last May, for both nights.
Both nights, I was the idiot screaming SS at the back of the pit behind Jill, she complemented me. Eddie definitely noticed. A couple fans were laughing. Who cares. Best song in forever. Close with SS you pussies

Here's my petition suggesting that "Setting Sun" closes all PJ tour shows.
A suggestion, since no one TELLS the band what to do lol.
100K signatures, and it goes to Pennsylvania Avenue for review.
I love reading every post in this thread as I feel the same about the song.
I hope this catches the band’s attention too.
There’s a big difference between radio singles meant to catch a listener - and the songs like Black or Setting Sun that are never released, but resonate with fans on a deeper level.
I would hope like Inside Job has stayed in rotation long since that tour, that Setting Sun will be played a lot more throughout the Dark Matter tour and the song will stick around and be played often enough going forward. It’s that good. It deserves to be played most every night.

Why no April/May shows for you?

Why no April/May shows for you?
It's because I'm seeing Pearl Jam this Summer & Fall.
..
Just kidding. We wanted to see Pearl Jam in Pittsburgh. Couldn't pull the trigger. Been pretty busy with work & family life so decided to skip the April / May shows.
Photos of @pearljam at @thegarden, with my film for “Setting Sun,” Sep 4 2024. The circle was a thematic thread through all of the Dark Matter tour visuals, with the “Setting Sun” finale bringing elements from other parts of the show together to close the circle. NYC was (and always will be) a second home to me, so it was extra special to bring this show to Madison Square Garden and have it perfectly framed by the building’s iconic circle looming over and reaching down towards our cosmic scenery, like the “Close Encounters” UFO.
As a personal aside: By design the show’s visuals have no hard cuts at all, and very few moments where the video is rhythmic or meant to hit at exact beats in a song. One of the few occasions is in “Setting Sun,” when the sun that has been slowly zooming out in one very long shot suddenly bursts open exactly on the downbeat into the guitar solo. This was a clever bit of visual design to pull off, as like everything else in the show the transition is triggered live by @kkpearl66’s manual lighting cues. It worked out so well that it became one of @eddievedder’s favorite visual moments, and each night it filled me with pride to watch him always turn around to watch the screen in awe for that moment. You can see it if you zoom in on the close-ups in slides 9 and 10. 🖤
I still have a bunch of photos to go through from last year’s PJ tour, I’ll drop them here as I get to them.
I was just in the car and this part of Setting Sun kicked in..I turned up the volume and goosebumps overwhelmed my entire body. This song is so powerful..inject it into my veins. I would love to see this song return to its glory in the closing spot like this photo in Vegas, but ill take what i can get. I need to hear it again. ❤️
I would love for this song to end shows again. While I think a natural spot in the setlist is immediately after Ed’s solo song in the encore, it also has a really special feel after Baba or Rockinh turning the lights back out quickly to let people know there’s one more worth waiting for.

Sign my petition to have "Setting Sun" close all official PJ tour shows.
2024 saw the release of Pearl Jam's 12th studio album, "Dark Matter".
The unquestioned highlight of the album's 11 tracks is the heartbreaking, yet hopeful, closer, "Setting Sun", which has already taken place as an all-time track in the band's catalog for quite a few of its fans.
The band's 2024 live tour in support of "Dark Matter" saw "Setting Sun" close out shows on numerous occasions, replacing long-standing finales such as "Yellow Ledbetter", "Indifference", and Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World", amongst others.
This petition hereby strongly advises (because let's be honest, no one TELLS Pearl Jam what to do) that "Setting Sun" be the final song at all official Pearl Jam tour shows, with the option to close one-off appearances (festivals, TV shows, webcasts, etc.) up to the band.
In the event of a multi-night stand at a location, the song must be played to close at least 50% of the shows at said location.
Spotify said last year I listened to the song 200 times. Got to hear it in Indy for the first time ladt year. Definitely in my top 10. Black is all grown up.😁
