There have been some great openers in past album; once, go, last exit, sometimes, brain of J, breakerfall, getaway and who ever said. But this might outshine all of them.

I’m going to agree with you.

  • These lyrics are just so sad man
.I really feel them. And feel for ed.
Yeah, I’ve been going through a divorce/seperation last 14 months so these lyrics are super powerful for me. The more I turn it up the better it fucking sounds. PJ released this album at just the moment I needed it. 🙏

    Such a great riff
Probably my favorite riff on the album...this and Stevie
I'd argue this album has some of the best guitar they've put to record since Yield

x2.  It's my favorite guitar work in the whole catalog.  Watt got custom amps made for this project.

I don't know if it was for this project specifically, but I heard the Dumble guy made Watt 4 amps before he died.

I think its behind Once and Go, but its the best opener to a record since Vs imo. I wonder how that holds in a few years time but for now i cant get enough of it

This plus add Setting Sun as a stellar closer, and these 2 tracks go up against the best of them imo.  These are my #1 opener and closer, followed by Go and Indifference, then Once and Release.

For me scared of fear and react respond are the best opening duo certainly since Vs, and I know thats very high praise

I couldn't agree more.  React, Respond is my favorite track on album.  And VS is my favorite overall Pearl Jam album.  I love Go + Animal.  After 30 spins of Dark Matter, this slide right up next to VS for me.  Stellar album.  And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ten, Vitalogy, No Code, and Yield.

YES! Thanks for sharing. For me this is the best song on the album. Good to hear it played live. This album is one that I am most looking forward to hearing live. As much as everyone likes it, I think it has the potential to be exponentially better live.

That ambient bit just before Sean Penn smacks the pool balls is totally The Frail by NIN. Was like damn that ambience sounds familiar and finally clicked as to what it reminded me of-the bit just before it goes into The Wretched.

I was thinking the same thing!  The Fragile album by NIN is such a masterpiece from start to finish, and it has aged very well.  I love putting that one on repeat.  And the part that you mention in The Frail, as it enters The Wretched, is such a cool moment.  How the soft atmospheric swell builds up, and then boom, in comes the instruments.  For Scared of Fear, the pool que hit would be right when The Wretched starts.

Highly recommend The Fragile by NIN for a unique musical journey.
