I hear quite a few Punk influences, One song had some Cure like guitar work.  I am still working through it, but so far I am enjoying it very much.  I can't complain, Its new music from Pearl Jam which makes me happy.
Honestly, this right here.  I will remind myself of this, and be grateful, if/when I encounter something I don't like on the new album.  I think we are lucky to have such an awesome band still making music.  Very excited for this upcoming tour as well.

For decades Financial Times has been my go-to for new album reviews but now I have no idea what to think anymore
    Hahahahaha

I don't know - I feel like Yahoo Finance is just a little better for album reviews. Rolling Stone is a distant third... ;)
The jokes certainly write themselves, but honestly the fact that Finacial Times gave it a review at all, let alone a positive one, speaks to the surprising reach of and affection for this album. It’s getting reviewed almost everywhere (including oddball places like this) and all the reviews have been good to absolutely glowing… well except from a few individual fans.

Yes, I realize P4K will probably put an end to that.
It has Universal Acclaim as one of the year’s top reviewed albums over at Metacrific: https://www.metacritic.com/music/dark-matter/pearl-jam
So do a lot of things that some people don’t like. Crazy to think otherwise.

    6/10 is fair, agree 100%

Lots of hype, not as heavy as promoted

It's better than Backspacer without a doubt!

My initial reaction is that this album is all over the place and has no flow. A lot of styles going on, and too many for it's own good. It definitely has it's moments, but the lows are very low. I'll give it more time, but if this isnt the worst PJ album in the catalog, it's probably only better than lightning bolt which isn't saying much.

For me wreckage, won't tell and something special were the lows. Upper hand, setting sun, scared of fear and running were my initial highlights. Waiting for Stevie has some great moments, and also some parts I'm not really fond of.

This album is a lot to digest....but for now I'm feeling a 6/10

And yes, I know my review sucks.
    6/10? Now I feel like you’re trolling.
Why? Is it crazy to think someone may not enjoy it as much as you?
That’s not the issue. The issue is giving it a 6. NO WAY is it a 6. That’s B.S.
According to who though?? I’m not understanding how you could possibly think that no one could think this album is a 6/10 or less. I give Gigaton a 4/10. Am I a troll? Such a weird stance to not understand just how subjective art is.
    Gigaton 4/10. 😂

Ok, bud, whatever you say. Those 5 guys could roll out of bed and get a 4/10.

A lot of harsh critics here. Get your resumes ready for Pitchfork.

It's an opinion which personally I agree with. This album is ok, nothing on it so far that makes me go wow. I think these guys can roll out of bed making a 8/10 to a 10/10 album they just didn't do it this time around.

    I certainly do.

Even if you took all reviews and averaged them out. 6/10 would not be the number. It’s not accurate whatsoever.

Great album - so many great moments on the record. These are going to be fun live.

After all these years the band still can bring it.

Reviews are just opinions and completely subjective.  However this album is at least an 8/10 which is a scientific fact.  😁

I would never disparage you for giving gigaton an10/10. I’d be jealous and appreciate your opinion. Try understanding that everyone is different.
    I certainly do.

Even if you took all reviews and averaged them out. 6/10 would not be the number. It’s not accurate whatsoever.
You’re just not understanding the fact that rating music is an opinion. Always will be. You’re treating as fact based.
I do understand that is an opinion, but it’s a fact if you averaged reviews this album would not be a 6/10.

People who constantly come here to 💩 on this band, why do you do it?
    Ok

So, your issue IS that someone has a different opinion than you. It happens. It’s all part of being in a community. We are one, but different in our own ways, which contributes to the tapestry of our fandom.
You can have a different opinion. 6/10 ranking comes from the trolls. That’s it.  6/10 isn’t accurate at all.

I'm definitely not a troll. I'm a paying member of the ten club and I love this band. Honestly, 6/10 might be generous now that I've played it through a few more times. Even one of my highlights, setting sun, I'm not feeling as much as I had originally thought. At this point I think the first to singles and scared of fear are probably my favorite tracks if had to pick.

I thought gigaton was a return to form of sorts, particularly the first half of the album. This one is 10 steps back.

On a side note, react, respond sounds just like can't stop by the chili peppers.

Wow, I’m open to all viewpoints but you just lost all credibility after stating that Chilli Peppers comparison.  Are you sure you’re listening to the right album?

Listen to the instrumentation, it's eerily similar. Once you hear it, you can't unhear it. It's not a knock on the song....I actually don't hate it.

Looking forward to everyone revisiting their opinions of this one 5 years down the road. I'm sure some will still love it...but I suspect this will be another forgettable album to most, much like the majority of their output from the past 20 years.

Goes to show you what a great band they are when a 6/10 is the 2nd worst record they've made.  Not to shabby!!

I suspect we'll read people saying it's the worst. It's been happening since Riot Act.  It's an opinion. Who cares? The thing that rubs me the wrong way would be the constant barrage of the same person repeatedly telling people how terrible it is In every thread (not saying that's happening here.......yet). Just let people enjoy it. Hang out in the other non album threads. There's still plenty to talk about on this site.

I agree, though this goes both ways with Pos/Neg takes. Stating your thoughts once is usually all that’s needed, and who knows, you might change your mind.
