I'm just fine with Alive every single show.  Also playing Dark Matter from start to finish every show as well!  Bring on the new tunes.

It's time to move it to a set 1 closer or something.  I don't want to know its the 2nd or 3rd to last song in 2024.

Fortunate to have been to one show without Alive.  Wouldn't be mad if it happened again.

When it opened the show in Dallas in 2003 it was incredible. It's only ever opened a show 3 times.

Alive should be the closer.  Anthemic.  Sing along.  Epic solo.  Uplifting.   No more covers.  Nothing slow.  Table YL for a while.

Alive should be the close.  There.  I said it.

That was a bit of a surprise. I remember reading somewhere at the time Stone created the setlist for that show, five horizons or two feet thick possibly. Definitely engaged the crowd immediately.

Alive is a great closer, but not at every show.
I want them to keep mixing it up a little.

  • I don't go to a lot of shows, the next one (whenever that will be) will be show 11. So I don't mind hearing Alive at any show.  What I'd really love, just bc I think it'd be cool - is if they opened with YL.  Would love to hear the crowd reaction when that first note gets strummed to start the show.

That actually would be pretty fun to witness.

I've always thought Alive should be the closer!

I agree with you. Denver last tour was actually pretty cool because they only played about 3 Ten songs instead of the usual 6-7. Give me some Riot Act and some Avocado and there are even Gigaton songs I didn't get to hear that I would love to (7:00)

I do miss the days where “alive” was a wild card and was played anywhere. I remember getting it in the sixth spot in 1998. With that said the song has evolved considerably since then. It would be anticlimactic that early nowadays.

It seemed to change after Roskilde, or at least that's when I noticed the change in the setlist spot.

It's perfection to turn the house lights on during the second "who answers" part of the "if so, if so, who answers, who answers" line.

Parting Ways should be in the closer rotation!

As far as Alive, I'm good with it every show but I wouldn't be disappointed if it wasn't played.

Parting Ways would be great after the band leaves the stage, although I once heard they were playing a song in that spot as a nod to someone who works(worked?) on the road crew.

I predict Fucking Up will be played at Ohana this year. Maybe not as a closer, though.
  • I love that they play it every show because there will be first timers at every show and they probably want to hear the biggest hits. Plus it’s great every time anyway

Why didn't you post a poll?

I like when they mix things up, so I wouldn't want it to be in the encore for every show. Throw it in the main set sometimes, leave it out sometimes, but not too often, just make it not a foregone conclusion.

It's fine. The people going to their first Pearl Jam concert will expect it. We sound like spoiled brats complaining about hearing Alive for the 44th time.

    Yes.

The lights up, Mike shredding the solo, Ed walking around and interacting, people going bonkers. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on that experience.

I have a buddy who, like a lot of casuals, was big into Ten, VS, and Vitalogy and then fell off. He's never seen them live. I'm thinking of offering one of Fenway tickets to him. He was pretty excited at the prospect of it and immediately said, "how many Ten songs do you think they'll play?" I told him it was impossible to predict, but probably at least 2-3 and maybe as many as 5-6.  It's likely he'll be unfamiliar with 75% of the songs but to see his reaction to hearing 4-6 ten songs would be great.

I'm around 50 shows so I've seen enough. But there's nothing like the crowd reaction to songs like Alive, Even Flow, Why Go, Black, Porch....hell, even Jeremy. Or Small Town or Daughter or Betterman.  I don't chase songs and certainly don't need to hear Bugs or Sweet Lew to complete a list.  I love being in crowds that are energetic and singing along.  And it's usually those songs that bring it out.

The only thing is a section of Ten/radio rans and everyone sits cluelessly through fucking In Hiding. That happened at Fenway in a non-10C upper level section. Then they got all excited about Wishlist. Really people?
