Pearl Jam to Play ALIVE Every Show (in the encore)

If the band plays 'Alive' every show in the encore how will you feel?

Amazing!
I'm good with it
I could care less
I hope not
I'll be pissed
Angry/Horrible (insert negative emotion here)

Even Flow is probably the only song off Ten that I'd choose to go without at a Pearl Jam concert. But happy for those who like the song. Give me Alive every night.

    There's no 'if' lol
  • I do miss the days where “alive” was a wild card and was played anywhere. I remember getting it in the sixth spot in 1998. With that said the song has evolved considerably since then. It would be anticlimactic that early nowadays.

Not to sound spoiled, but I kinda miss the days they mixed the closers up just a little bit more.  Look, Alive and Ledbetter are no doubt amazing songs and part of this bands DNA, but a little more variety would be a welcome change. This is particularly so now with the new "let's play two" in the same city plan.

now that being said, come back to me in 10-15 years when we will likely no longer get to enjoy seeing these amazing musicians perform live, I will probably be saying, "Man, if I could just hear Alive "live," just one more time."

Love Alive at all gigs. Not same feeling with porch and even flow.

They still mix things up somewhat. Maybe not as much as they used to, but last year you got Ledbetter at half the shows. Then Purple Rain, Surrender, Indifference, Baba O'Riley at the others. 5 different closers in 8 shows isn't too bad.

I agree with the person who said that they would lose Even Flow before Alive though.

Fair enough!  I might just be basing my opinion on my own experience and not paying attention to a larger sample size.

I thought 2022/23 tour they played the songs of Ten the best in a while
  • I’d rather have Black and Even Flow every night than Alive. I’m so bored of Alive. I’ll never get sick of Black, it may be the greatest song ever written. I agree with the above, move it around in the setlist. I remember Camden 1 2006 they played Even Flow in the 2nd encore. That whole second encore was insane. I thought there was going to be a riot during Blood and Leash.

I always enjoy it. Yeah I've listened to it a billion times and its not as exciting as it used to be. But I'll take it over Evenflow or Jeremy 100 times out of 100.

I’ve gotten it 35/48 shows.  After not getting it for all 8 shows I hit in 2000, I don’t take it for granted and always love to hear it.

  • I'd be down with Alive every show and I agree that they should drop Even Flow and Porch, but if they have to be played maybe cut the length back a bit.  Same goes for other songs.  I don't need 10 minute long versions of Porch, Rearviewmirror or Crazy Mary.  If they feel the need to extend songs, make Mike's Solo on Sirens longer.

Give me alive at every show but 1) shorten the jam part of porch and 2) ditch indifference as a closer

They have to play Alive at every show. Imagine if you were a newer fan and it’s your first show and they don’t play it. You’d probably be a little disappointed. I ageee they could move it around a little bit maybe, but at most maybe a little earlier in the encore.

It would be nice to switch it up.  But there is a part of the show that is becoming "gimmick" at this stage.
His eminence has yet to show.

When I was new I was more interested in Jeremy and that gets a lot less play than Alive.  I don’t need to hear Alive this year.

I feel the same way. They can play it anywhere in the set and they can keep playing it at every show.

It unites the crowd every time and I'm blessed to part of it each time.

I still love Alive. As I get older that song really hits me. It's a re-affirmation song for me at this point.

Although moving it around the set would be also be great.  Love to hear it early.  And I've said this before but I always thought Even Flow would get a bigger boost if played at the very end like Alive is.  Right now Even Flow in the same spot is really kind of tired to me.

It is their signature song. Anthemic, Stone riff, Mike solo, Ed's soaring vocals, catchy chorus.

As long as Mike stays focused and they stick the ending it's my favorite song of theirs in a live setting.

Think that is definitely one of the options for a double header.

    One night has
Rockin in the free World followed by Yellow Ledbetter, while the other night will close with Baba O'Reilly or Alive.
I have a feeling that this year we won't see Indifference very often, for example.

Fine with Alive in the Encore - just not Indifference as the closer (love the song and have been to some amazing shows where indifference was the closing song but...)

Parting Ways should be in the closer rotation!

As far as Alive, I'm good with it every show but I wouldn't be disappointed if it wasn't played.
