I took from it that he said it is a very solid album from a late career band. We definitely shouldn’t think of it as a return to form as the songs do not sound like Ten or Vs., but it might be a return to form in the sense that it sounds like a very high energy sounding album.
He definitely was a bit all over in some of his comments, but I think through the lens of how various fans might see the album differently.

Yea I got that it wasn't a return to earlier albums. I think we all knew that was going to be the case. But couldn't tell if he was upset about it or just pointing it out.
