Green Day had listening parties for their new album around the world on the same day, it had free giveaways including free T-shirts, posters, pins etc.  There were even 2 listening parties at 2 different indie record stores in two different states in Australia.  Would be cool if PJ did something like this.

PJ did this back in the day for self-titled (Avocado). I still have the free t-shirt and a couple other giveaways from the event.

I'm less excited now. Elite parties like this is a goof move imo.
Not everyone there was elite. It's basically for people in the industry and press. Some fans were invited
Well it reminded me of Eddie Murphy laughing at the kid that has no ice cream he just dropped on the ground!

You dropped your ice-cream. You dropped your ice cream. You do not get some. You're Mom's on welfare! I guess I'm of the - take your carrot and shove it variety. Teasing the poor die-hard fans.
That’s why I order the green pepper welfare burger. That and because it’s better than MacDonalds.

Why throw a private listeing party and not even give the public a first single? At the moment it‘s just words for something words can‘t describe.

As long as it’s a better album than Gigaton, I’ll be happy.

Argh. I had a pretty good feeling that if I went over there today, I would have been able to hear this from the back alley. I used to live 1,000 feet from the Troubadour. If I still lived there, it would have been a no-brainer. But for some reason, I decided it wasn't worth risking a 20-minute drive over there without actual knowledge that the event was taking place (which I only sort of had as of early this afternoon). Kicking myself.
Dude i wouldnt worry, hearing an album partially through walls and catching snippets in low quality sound really isnt the way you want to hear the new stuff. It'll soon be out, and you can sit back with a beer or two, with your lossless headphones on and savour it fresh. Its the best way.

a listening party months before a release seems a bit strange, is that normal with other bands? Trying to make sense of the reported april release date?

I'll be honest, there's no rush at all as far as Im concerned, we'll get it when we get it and I'll be excited as the next fan but having to wait a few months is no big deal to me.

I know the cycle by now, it'll land, we'll all absolutely love it initially, play it to death, and probably find a year down the line we are comparing it to gigaton. There is always the over reaction first, something I am guilty of every damn time, and then a few years down the line we will return to the lists of the best PJ albums and have an internal battle as to where it sits next to backspacer, LB and gigaton. The top half of that chart will remain unchanged. I hope I'm wrong of course, but even if I'm not there still isn't a PJ album i don't love (Riot act has always been my struggle)

I am trying to not buy into Ed's 'this is our best record yet' take on it.......

ooof. Def not something I want to hear. Maybe this was ill phrased? I hope.
I mean yeah, if you want to go all the way negative in the blink of an eye. If they mean the way fists get pumping and we all chant yeah during Alive and you don't want to hear it then there isn't much left to be said.
Uhhh. That part during alive ISNT the chorus bub. It’s an extension they’ve cultivated while Mike solos. It’s awesome, but that’s not the vibe I get from this line in the article.

I get, “you can’t dennnnyyy me” chanting and cowbell. That makes me want to vomit. I hope I’m wrong!

I think the absolute latest we’d get a single is 2/13 with the rumored tour announcement but i wouldn’t be shocked if one came sooner.
