Scott Hannan - Used to play D for the San Jose Sharks, now he plays for the Colorado Avalanche. I got to talk with him a bit at Mountain View in 2003 - at the amphitheatre bar (before Pearl Jam went on stage of course!!)

I tried looking through it all but not sure if he was mentioned... Jose Theodore (goalie foor the Colorado Avalanche) is a big fan. Saw an interview with him back when he was with the Canadiens and one segment was about him playing guitar and he started playing Corduroy and mentioned something about loving Pearl Jam.

Alex Smith (49ers QB) and Barry Zito (Giants Pitcher) are both huge fans.

I did a story about local athletes and what's in their ipods. They both named PJ as part of their rotation...so of course I had to strike up the conversation about our common intrest...it turns out they both are really big fans.

One side note though...Smith also listed JT as one of his favorites. Yes...that JT (Timberlake).

    Ouch!

While in Seattle, Sean Casey got to catch up with Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam’s frontman, on Wednesday. Casey brought home with him quite the prize: a personalized Fender Telecaster that Vedder used in a recording.

“I can’t play guitar, I don’t think he knows that, but I’m going to learn now. I’ve always wanted to and this is going to be the incentive,” said Casey, a longtime Pearl Jam fan.

He said Vedder once paid a visit to Cincinnati when Casey played for the Reds and played a song in the clubhouse. Casey gave him a bat then. What goes around, comes around: On the back of the guitar, Vedder inscribed, “Love to you Sean, Eddie Vedder.”

Rocking with the Sox: Sean Casey
By Tom Kielty / Rocking with the Sox
    Wednesday, August 6, 2008 - Updated 16h ago

Red Sox reserve Sean Casey has a reputation as perhaps the nicest guy in the game, earning the nickname, the Mayor. Judging from his easy interaction with his Sox teammates, it’s well deserved.

In the midst of answering a question about his most recent musical purchase (“Into The Wild” by Eddie Vedder on CD), he is playfully interrupted by third baseman Mike Lowell interjecting “Barry Manilow!”

When Casey is asked what tunes fill his iPod, it’s shortstop Julio Lugo’s turn to interrupt by shouting “reggaeton!”

In reality, the first baseman is a musical throwback.

“Oh, man, I have so many songs,” he says. “A lot of country, a lot of ’70s. I love the soft rock from back then. When I want to chill it’s like Jackson Browne and that kind of music. I have a lot of rock. I love everything from Pearl Jam to Fleetwood Mac.”

And country music. He says his most recent concert experience was seeing “Brooks and Dunn and Rodney Atkins after we played a day game in Cincinnati.” As for his first live show, it was perhaps a harbinger of his current employer. “It was (the band) Boston at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena,” Casey says. “I was in seventh grade.”
