@gimmesometruth27 right now Ukraine is “watching.” Looks like they had intelligence info about this.

On the ground it’s business as usual, with Russian attacks on civilians again yesterday and today. As someone said on TV this morning, it’s unlikely that Russian soldiers on the ground in Ukraine know about any of this.

Prigozhin is not a better option for Ukraine. But the Georgian legion is making noises, Belarusian people are making noises about ditching Lukashenko, and in Russia there are more than two sides in this whatever-it-is. So I imagine Ukraine is hoping that Russia will implode enough that they can seize the advantage, while also hoping that Prigozhin doesn’t get his hands on nuclear weapons.

Exactly!  It really is a bad scene.

What do you all think- does this warrant a separate thread?  Something like "Crisis in Russia"?

I mean we could retitle the thread to reflect how Putin is a master strategist, etc., but I have no strong opinions one way or another.

It is very distracting, potentially very volatile situation. I think it's impossible to predict what will happen. I'm trying to follow only the most reputable sources, and even then, what's being shared is insane: looks like Lukashenko might just stay in Turkey, since it's thought that he's easier to unseat than Putin; inside sources at Interior Ministry in Moscow saying that generals, etc. are busy trying to figure out who to back in this fight, also saying that Moscow police are likely to give up without a fight because they're just not prepared to face this sort of challenge -- beating up a protester is very different from facing trained mercenaries led by a madman.

There *are* loons saying this is a CIA--backed plot to distract everyone from the REAL problem, namely Hunter Biden's laptop. It's amazing how "Sleepy Joe" is so senile that he barely knows where he is and yet he's able to  sow chaos and potentially bring down Russia and Belarus in just a few days.

Back in reality, Garry Kasparov's declaration that Russia has been a failed state for years probably is accurate.

If anyone thinks that US intelligence agencies and special ops actors haven’t been doing spooky shit since day one isn’t paying attention. I’m willing to wager that our intelligence agencies have been itching to do something for Putin on the ritz’s 2016 election interference and POOTWH’s embrace of not only Putin on the ritz but other authoritarian leaders like Mohammad bonesaw, etc. There’s a “revenge” factor in play. The difference is, you won’t hear Brandon bragging about it with exaggerated arm and hand waving in front of the cameras.

i thought we lost a lot of covert operatives with trump's co-incidental "mishandling" of the documents? maybe they were working on something like this and because it involved moving putin out of the way, putin was informed and our people were killed? seems possible.

Yeah, it's nearly impossible to sort this all out right now.  One thing for sure, it won't be a short lived story and it won't have minimal consequences throughout the world.
forget it. i can't waste any more of my weekend on this.

Good call.  Getting one's nose out of the news for a while is a good idea.  Of course, you know we'll be back, lol.

And now the rightwingosphere has their idiot sycophants believing this is a CIA coup to oust Putin in order to distract from Hunter Biden  and so that Joe can run in 2024 saying he got rid of Putin.
