In case you forgot, or never learned about it, the worst domestic terrorist attack in America was committed by a right wing fanatic who had been indoctrinated by the right wing media.

This is amazing, lol. I said almost nothing at all days and days ago, and I return to read a response so disproportionate... This isn't the first time. I recall some non-directed comment I made about the US being a shitshow right now, and I think i'm still seeing the ripple effects of that from the same poster. I am quite taken aback by how truly little it takes to ruffle that feather.

Enjoy our medical research subsidies that socialist nations enjoy for a deep discount, you are all welcome. Now PP is inventing ways to distance himself from Donnie. you all are welcome for that.
Some don’t seem to recognize nor care that “world health” is a strategic aim of the US. A healthier world keeps the US healthier and safer. But to the authoritarians, “you owe the US.”
And there seems to be some kind of belief that no other countries are innovating or doing really anything other than leeching off the US, lol. It's completely delusional, so really not worth debating IMO.

Exactly. Like the US is the only nation in the world where their government invests in medical research and innovation. And do we hear those snowflakes whining about how they’re “being ripped off”?
I never said “no other counties innovate,” only that the USA is a known leader in research and innovation, for which Americans pay a premium and many socialist systems, which look to maximize cost savings, not as much. Except for countries like Japan Korea and Switzerland (with a health system not that different from the US). Many systems do not attempt to innovate. Instead of trying to discuss what might be the presidents strategy, it’s an attack zone here to all non believers of the left.
This costs Americans a lot of money and attacks from our socialist neighbors deserve a strong rebuttal. I was responding to incessant posting a week or so ago that my country is a “sh!thole” and “Americans are to blame” (not trump voters).
for those “not wanting to debate” perhaps condescending comments like “not understanding university research” that is funded with OUR tax dollars is not the best strategy to accomplish that goal. Oops.
Japan's healthcare system is very different from the US. No networks, no co pays. Show up and get treated. Same with Dentists. Optometrists. Much cheaper. As far as research goes, it is global. I think we can agree that there are federal grants to entities that do not achieve their objectives. 400m to Columbia is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not sure being politically middle or left or right is the main issue anymore, Lerxst. How can there be a middle when the choices right now essentially boil down to Democracy/ Constitutional Government, or Autocracy/ Tyranny? I know that sound overly simplified, but its not because you can be either conservative OR liberal* OR some of each under a Democracy that upholds the U.S. Constitution. Under an autocratic state ruled by tyranny, you don't get to be either. You become a slave or are eliminated.
*(I happen to sort of be both, depending on what the topic is, and I
avoid both labels because I believe in love, critical thinking, and
doing what makes sense)

I agree with your comment. Democrats, however, need to effectively communicate to win elections. On this forum, I’ve simply been pointing out material facts omitted on various topics, or ones where the resistance is overreacting. These are actions that turn off independent or moderate voters. They do exist.
the specific fact pattern history to this comment was me pointing out a couple weeks ago something to the effect that perhaps we should look into the billions we finance to the Ivy League. These institutions each have up to tens of billions in endowments and our tax burden is extremely high. This does not mean that I am against this research just that questioning it is not a terrible idea.
I was mocked by someone living under a socialist system regarding medical research, who does not bear this enormous expense, and then constantly derided (indirectly) by someone else living under this same system. The USA system is designed to innovate, because of the search for profit. That’s expensive and perhaps it’s time everyone pays fairly for that innovation.
back to your point on democracy and my theme that Dems are terrible at messaging. Even during the election, democrats lost the save democracy messaging. Why? Because Rs pointed out nobody ever voted for Kamala in a national race, and she was appointed nominee with no votes. In the dem echo chamber that’s not discussed, they didn’t see it coming and it was enough to not win the authoritarian argument in the race. With uncertain voters, it was enough to shut down the “republicans are authoritarian “ cries. Because Dems do not see what exists outside their echo chamber. The only way to win back seats is to effectively communicate to those outside the base.

Also, I didn't attack you (fyi, pointing out that you don't understand something isn't an attack). And I don't think anything being said in here is "Yankee bashing", given what is going on. MSNBC Guest Admits Pro-Hamas Protesters’ Visa Revocation Likely To Stand
Harold Hutchison
March 28, 2025 3:55 PM ET
Former Clinton administration Justice Department official Harry Litman said Friday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s decision to revoke the green card of pro-Hamas protesters would likely be upheld by the courts.
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tookMahmoud Khalil, who reportedly led pro-Hamas protests at Columbia University, into custody after his green card was revoked by Rubio. Litman said that the revocation of Khalil’s green card, as well as the visas of other pro-Hamas protesters in the U.S., was something courts would probably not “second-guess.” (RELATED: Jonathan Turley Highlights Trump Admin’s Strongest Arguments In Bid To Deport Pro-Hamas Protester)
“Khalil has a green card, so did the student, excuse me, picked up this morning. There’s a regulation, Jose, passed in the height of the Cold War that says if the secretary of state makes a finding that someone is — there are two different things going on here, aiding terrorists, that’s what they say the latest student picked up did, or somehow a risk to national security, they can have their visa revoked,” Litman told MSNBC host Jose Diaz-Balart. “And there’s a lot of law that says they’re not going to second guess or they may not second guess Rubio’s judgment about that fact, are they a risk to national security?”
WATCH:
“So in the latest case, there’s going to be a frontal attack on the actual regulation because it is very clear that what’s happened here is based only on First Amendment activity. Khalil was one of the organizers of the demonstration and the person picked up this morning wrote an op-ed,” Litman continued. “And then based on that, Rubio made this judgment. It’s really that judgment and the way it dovetails with First Amendment activity that gives pause here. But that may be the aspect of the regulatory scheme that is hardest to challenge.”
Pro-Hamas demonstrations at multiple universities and colleges have taken shape since the Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas that killed over 1,200 people in Israel. Protesters have occupied buildings, blocked Jewish students from parts of campus and have chanted a slogan that implies a desire to wipe out Israel. Rubio called for the visas of foreign students who supported Hamas’ actions to be revoked during an Oct. 17, 2023, appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” while he was still a Florida senator.
“The law says if you are a supporter of a terrorist organization you shouldn’t even have a visa,” Rubio told Fox News host Laura Ingraham during the appearance. “So now, once you get that visa, if you identify yourself as a Hamas supporter, then you should have your visa canceled and you should be removed from the country.”
Rubio, since becoming secretary of state, has revoked more than 300 student visas, though Litman focused on two students, Khalil, and Rumeysa Ozturk, who was detained for “activities in support of Hamas.” These cases are currently being contested in federal court, the Associated Press reported.
“There is precedent for using the law without questioning the secretary of state. Secretary of State signs a piece of paper. I think this person is a risk to national security,” Litman said. “Now, remember, we’re talking about immigration status. And as Rubio was saying, you know, it’s very different to revoke a visa, especially a student visa, even a green card than it is to charge someone with a crime.”
“But the precedent is there for secretary of state to determine that someone is a danger if they — if they continue to have their immigration status permitting them to be here. I think the real thing that is animating these protesters is they think from what we know, ain’t a lot to suggest that these two people are serious risk to national security,” Litman continued. “But what the reg says is that’s a call for Rubio to make, not the courts. The courts can do other things like, are you the person named? Is the regulation constitutional? But this core judgment by Rubio is going to be very hard to overturn.”
What constitutes being “a supporter of a terrorist organization” under current US law?
I won’t wait for an answer from the authoritarians amongst us.
The law says we elect a president and they appoint a sec state to make that determination. He protested and shut down a school to promote the goals of a terrorist organization. That sounds exactly like support.
Green card and visa holders are not entitled to the same rights as citizens. That is a fact, not an opinion.
again, let him have his day in court. But even liberal lawyers on msnbc see problems in his fight to extend the privilege granted to him by America.

Rumeysa Ozturk’s experience is shocking, cruel, and unconstitutional. For nearly 24 hours, we could not locate her, and despite a court order to prevent the government from taking her out of Massachusetts, we finally learned the Trump administration had shipped her to Louisiana. Criticizing U.S. foreign policy and human rights violations is neither illegal nor grounds for detention. The government must immediately release Rumeysa to continue her studies and rejoin her community,” Mahsa Khanbabai, a lawyer for Ozturk, said in a statement.
Right or wrong, as a matter of opinion, if a government agency sets forth a factual basis for a determination, it is very difficult for that decision to be overturned in court. US agencies are granted deference and discretion if they have even a shred of a factual basis for their determination. Even if that factual basis is open to different interpretations. If a determination is overturned, the government usually gets a chance to revise their findings. This applies to many agencies. Agency decisions do get overturned if a court finds they acted in a way that is arbitrary and capricious. But that is the exception rather than the rule.

For some reason our neighbors to the north deserve sovereignty (they do) but America doesn’t? America should be ordered by our guests welcomed here in peace how to conduct its national security while not having the right to revoke visas of those seeking to destabilize our peace on our soil?
and her op ed was riddled with lies. Stop blaming other nations for palestines inability for self determination , when its current war is the blame of an invasion orchestrated by its leadership and Iran. Some self determination.

If you are looking for a factual based discussion, I’m not sure you’ve come to the right place.
These people are here as our guests. The United States has a constitutional right to conduct its national security the way it sees fit. Since we are a democracy, those actions are subject to the will of the people.
Marco Rubio, someone I’d never vote for, went on national tv in October 2023 immediately before primaries to determine the president, stated in clear terms he views these visa and green card holders actions as a threat to national security and should be deported. His man won the election and he is now Sec State. It is legally his determination.
That’s called democracy in action. They said it. They won. It’s now their call. Good job protesting a democratic president Hamas. Almost like it was devised by a nation that insists on eating its own hand grenades. They invaded a sovereign nation. They started the war. They protested americas reply. This is exactly what they asked for. They helped get rid of the American president. Now we have a new one.
Yet the liberals continually lie about the circumstances behind and legality of these attempted deportations.

Litman, who resigned as an opinion writer for Los Angeles Times after claiming the outlet was “appeasing” Trump, said the courts would not “second guess” Rubio’s decision to revoke the visas. (RELATED: ‘Your Visa Should Be Yanked’: Marco Rubio Calls For Deporting Hamas Supporters From US)
“There is precedent for using the law without questioning the secretary of state.

I won’t wait for an answer from the authoritarians amongst us.

again, let him have his day in court.

The government must immediately release Rumeysa to continue her studies and rejoin her community,” Mahsa Khanbabai, a lawyer for Ozturk, said in a statement.

and her op ed was riddled with lies. Stop blaming other nations for palestines inability for self determination , when its current war is the blame of an invasion orchestrated by its leadership and Iran. Some self determination.
