The most "ahead of it's time" albums you know of.

What are some of the most "ahead of it's time" albums you know of.  List as you please but maybe consider a shorter list (or even just one or a few) of really ahead of their time albums rather than long pages of album titles.

I'll start with one that I sometimes remember as coming out of the 80's and being ahead of its time.  It actually came out in 1972 which makes it hugely ahead of its time:  Ornette Coleman, Science Fiction:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I'd say that Ok Computer by Radiohead fits that description.

Radiohead got ruined for me late in their career seeing them on Colbert.  I suspect they were better early on so should check out their early stuff.

    Devo, YA!  Whip it!

Don't know much about Faith No More, so will check it out.

    Awesome, keep 'em coming!

    Kinks!  Lola contains lol, ahhh!

Radiohead is awesome. They do some weird techno shit that I can't say I get into but they are a great band.

Great question. Id say recently (being the past 20 years or so) its gotta be "Kid A" and "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". In terms of rap, id go with "808s & Heartbreak" by Kanye.

Frank Zappa (any record) thinking Joe's Garage. I think he is so ahead of his time it hasn't come yet. Apostrophe is crazy too. If you can stomach it, listen many times if you want to surprise your brain repeatedly.

Velvets and Television, for sure (!), and probably Sabbath but I'm not very familiar with them.  I have Paranoid and like it but never head over heals like most fans.

    Jimi, totally!
I finally got Joy Divisions first album very recently.  Yeah, really ahead of it's time!  I have to be careful about when to listen to it though.  NOT when feeling depressed!

I'd say this one is an excellent choice:

I have tried to understand Zappa and just can't get there. Definitely talented and unique but I just don't get the music.

Zappa was an absolute genius and held all of his musicians accountable.  He never did drugs but his mind was out there.

Here is part of his greatness.  Yes, that's a young clean shaven Frank Zappa.

It's ok. Consider yourself lucky not to like it.  I took a long time for his insanity to grow on me. It is like he was intentionally making music that people wouldn't like. I guess that's part of the charm for me.

And my NEWEST and MOST IMPORTANT DISCOVERY: The Black woman who could be said to have INVENTED GRUNGE who was so ahead of her time, she was easily erased from history.  I was horrified I didn't hear of her until last year... and guess who one of her drummers was? Matt Cameron, so he was in on this history-making band!

I always thought Patti Smith was grunge with her bands sound.  Even some early hardcore could pass too.  Music is sooo much fun to debate and chat about though!
