there was a shooting at our travelling carnival (The Red River Exhibition) on Monday. My daughter is going tomorrow with some friends. I keep telling myself this was not random, it was a few teens that either knew each other, or got into some sort of altercation, but the fact that 15 and 17 year olds brought a loaded gun to the fair, shot another teen, got in a cab and sped away (but got caught later) has me a tad nervous.
I'm amazed that people think that it's easy to get away with these types of actions?

being underage, I'm sure they eventually will get away with it.

A cab? Did they call it afterwards? Did they take the cab there and say "keep the meter running; just gotta go shoot someone quickly," or is the travelling carnival in a place that happens to be surrounded by a lot of cabs?

(Or by "cab" do you not mean taxicab?)

those details haven't been released yet. I was wondering the same thing. I'd imagine there were cabs there waiting for fares, and they just jumped in. Generally in Winnipeg you have to call a cab unless it's a big event with lots of people then there will be some hanging around waiting for fares.

On NPR yesterday the legislators in NY and NJ are at the ready to introduce new laws if that happens.

Concealed carry isn't so bad.  The people whom do have it had to do a whole lot to get that permit.

You’re comfortable with anyone who was previously legally able to purchase a gun in NY is now able to carry it concealed on their person and go about their day? I’m asking based on your “concealed carry isn’t so bad,” comment.

The paranoid, hot head who bought a gun legally 10 years ago for home protection and was previously law abiding prior to the original gun purchase, is now carrying out in public. I pitty the barista who gets his or her order wrong or the person sitting across from one of these new concealed carriers who has their firearm fall out their pants waist and discharge.

Yea, I can totally see how “concealed carry isn’t so bad.”

Kinda like the Plaxico Burress case. I was not surprised the NRA did not make a peep about that one. Because his right to bear arms and be sloppy about it only didn't get someone killed through blind luck. (Oh, and he doesn't "look" like the image of a hard-working man just trying to defend himself, his family, and his property).

You have to jump through hoops to even get a permit in NY.  The sky isn't falling.  Relax.

I know. But should it have been illegal? What part of "shall not be infringed" was misunderstood there?

I'm not a gun guy/fan but would that gun have been legal following this decision?

No, not all of them. The “responsible” gun owner who otherwise abides by the law and keeps their gun on the nightstand decides that now that it’s legal to conceal carry says, “why not?” Never mind they’ve never holstered or carried a gun on their person except for that rare time someone knocked on the wrong door at 2:00 am. And then you have the folks who might only carry in their neighborhood but now think it’s totally fine to traverse the five boroughs while armed because they legally can.

Seems some folks think that because a person legally purchased a gun that they’ll be “responsible” with it upon leaving the home. Despite stats to the contrary. Good luck because we all know that more guns out and about with the general public makes us all safer.

    Plaxico had an illegal gun.
If he had a legal gun do you think he wouldn’t have shot himself? That maybe he’d be a better gun handler?

I know. But should it have been illegal? What part of "shall not be infringed" was misunderstood there?

I'm not a gun guy/fan but would that gun have been legal following this decision?
No it would not, he bought the gun illegally.

You have to jump through hoops to even get a permit in NY.  The sky isn't falling.  Relax.
Let’s see in a year what the shooting stats are for NY versus the past year. We’ll use July to June fiscal year. Unless the SCOTUS decision takes effect on a specific date?

Seriously though....don't you think they are carrying it anyway?

So I just read what the law was and seeing that it is thrown out now.

I do not understand how the SC infringed on a states rights/laws?  I'll agree that more people possibly carrying concealed doesn't excite me.

Mayor Adams, whom I like, will hopefully pass ne legislation about it.

Any future legislation passed will now be considered a “burden” and thus an infringement. I suspect that age limits will now be challenged because you know, 16 year olds in 1776 were considered adults and were important to the common defense. Why should age be a burden to exercise your 2A?
