Thanks for sharing this, I did ask for other sources in my original comment. But this data is flawed in the same way. All of the sources I looked at (and I shared from from politico) only include a small fraction of mass shootings. I think this one counted 140 over a span of 40 years. Its not any more valid than the one I shared. And in the 80s the white population was closer to 80%, so averaging the population over the time this data was taken, it is still about equal.

Luckily for me, I understand math. I know if 70% of shooters are white, and 70% of the population is white, I can rationalize it isnt a problem associated primarily with whites. I am really puzzled as to why this is such a difficult concept. Even those arguing with me are providing quotes saying the same thing. It really isnt a difficult statement.

Then explain to me what role race plays in this? Mass shootings are like 90% males. Of those mass shootings, only 50-60 are white, which make up about 60% of the population. I've agreed its a male problem. Please explain to me how it is also a white problem too?
Consider 1 variable at a time;
Males 50% of the population but 90% of mass shootings - big problem
Whites 60$ of the population and 50-60% of mass shootings - not a factor.
You can't just put them both together and say therefore white males are at a higher rate, because that would apply to every male ethnic group as well. IF something applies to every group, then it doesn't apply to any.

you go from white males to whites in general.  white males ARE NOT 60% of the population. Less than half that 60% given there are more women than men.

You shouldn’t need to read an article or do “research.” Just pay attention over time and know a little bit about current demographics and the differences between a planned, mass shooting and a random outburst of gun violence that gets classified as a mass shooting because of multiple victims (I go by the definition of four or more victims, not including the shooter).

Yes, it said it was mostly true that most mass shootings are white males, because that is true. It also stated that is the case because whites make up a higher percentage of the country, and the data reflects what the population is, and that race is not a major factor.
I did read it. Whites make up more mass shootings because they make up more of the population. But the rate is roughly equal to the population. That was the point.
