If they would allow you to order a poster and sticker sight unseen with your 10c tix, I'd be totally on board. Might end up with an ugly poster, but ugly poster usually equals great show!
They did that once. People complained about the artwork, and for whatever reason, preorder posters were never offered again.
They were also strangely concerned about the secondary market collapsing, for whatever reason.
From what we know from Brad Klausen’s post over in the EV merch thread, there is no commission on gig posters and the artist only makes money on their AP sale. So if the secondary market collapses and there is no demand for APs it hurts the artist and they may not want to do another. Just my guess.

or, God forbid, they could pay artists for doing work for them that brings in a fair amount of money
Nah, they're getting paid in exposure! Artists love that, right? Hang on... *checks Twitter* ...oh yeah, no, they hate that. Of course, given that PJ posters are almost guaranteed to sell out their print run, maybe it's not quite as bad as "paid in exposure".

Seriously? That's ridiculous.
Depends if that’s industry standard or not? If PJ is the only one that operates that way, then it’s a bad look. If not, then that’s just how it works.

I obviously don't have any life experience to say otherwise, but I have an extremely hard time believing bands don't pay poster artists for their work and time.

Exactly. I don't know what Klausen said, but I'm guessing "no commission" actually just meant that the artist gets a flat fee for the artwork rather than a percentage per show edition sold. But you know, this is the internet, so people have to freak out immediately.

Reading Klausen's post, it sounds like it is industry standard:
"And to any artists new to the world of gigposters.... you will almost
never get paid a commission to make a poster for a band. If you do get
paid a commission or fee, expect it to be insultingly low, like $200-300
for weeks of your time and energy. This is why most poster artist
figured out a long time ago instead of getting paid $200, why not just
have the merchandise company pay for $200-300 worth of more prints they
can give to you as your payment that you can sell on your own for what
ever price you choose... so say you get 100 posters and charge $90 and
sell out... your commission is $9000 instead of $300.... not bad right?
And Pearl Jam / Tsurt takes care of posters artists better then most
bands / merchandise companies..so don't always expect you will get 100
posters as payment... some companies will give you 25-50."

That helps with context, thanks. As he says, that kind of payment is "insultingly low". I didn't realize that they were doing this in lieu of payment though. I actually always figured that the band would take some cut of these prints, considering their name is on it. That's what I figured was happening with the regular prints too, but apparently not. If the artists get everything from selling their own prints, then that's not as bad.
Interesting. I was kind of thinking they might play Music Midtown in Atlanta. Dates haven’t been announced for 2022, but typically a similar weekend as Bourbon

It's the million dollar question. They were the featured artist for Mike at his Peak To Sky event in Montana in August. PJ will be back from Europe, figure that one is likely.
