My sister got her booster today. She works in healthcare. She had some fairly nasty side effects from her second shot so I am curious to see how she does with the booster. I had very mild side effects from my vaccine. It’s so weird how it hits people differently.
makes me wonder if how the vaccine affects you if you would get a similar experience contracting covid?
It could be. My sister never had covid. But I had it and it was a mild case - like my reaction to the vaccine.

So different for many. Waiting now for the fifteen minutes after my booster. The guy that got his just before me came out and said it hurt. I didn't really feel it - a mosquito bite was more noticeable. Hopefully the reaction matches the previous two shots, which were extremely minor.
my best friend's aunt passed away today from covid. i've known her for over 40 years. she was vaccinated, caught a breakthrough case and 5 days later she is gone. she had some underlying health issues, but she just couldn't overcome it.
That's terrible. Was she elderly?
she was 70 but was a young looking 70. was pretty active and functional. got vaccinated due to immunocompromised grandchildren.

I am sorry for your loss. That is terrible. I hope you and your friend are doing ok.
thank you, i am okay. my friend is just kinda shocked that it happened so fast.
i hadn't seen her in a few years, but as long as i can remember she was always at the family events i attended. my dad and my friend's dad went to high school together so i have known that family my entire life .i briefly dated her daughter, my friend's cousin, about 25 years ago. i think it was the only time i ever did not have anxiety about meeting the parents, since she knew me since i was born.

Christian group fights Idaho Covid mandates despite pocketing bailouts
Christ Church leaders and aligned companies received millions of dollars in coronavirus bailouts amid campaign against mandates
The controversial rightwing Christ Church – and
its pastor, Douglas Wilson – have led an uncompromising campaign of
opposition to coronavirus public health measures in Idaho, revealing the church’s powerful influence in its home city of Moscow and beyond.
The
campaign has included in-person protests, misinformation and
encouragement of civil disobedience across media channels owned by the
church, which, as the Guardian has reported, is seeking to increase its power and influence in the town as part of an aim of creating a theocracy in America.
It
also comes at a time when numerous far-right groups across the US are
taking action against Covid-19 mandates, which have been echoed by calls
for civil disobedience by more mainstream Republican figures, including
office-holding politicians.

i played travel baseball with this guy when we were growing up. i am not surprised he would do something like this. he was always an idiot even when we were teenagers.

I missed all that but regardless, I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's aunt. Hard to imagine someone would make those kinds of posts.
Good thoughts for your friend.

thanks brian. it is not just here, but all over social media. people make ridiculous comments because they have not been touched by covid and haven't lost anybody. i know 4 people who have lost parents to it, my friend just lost his aunt, a guy i know needs a double lung transplant because of covid but since he is a cancer survivor he is way down the waiting list and most likely will die before a match is foud.
it is just a horrible, horrible virus, and some people posting ridiculousness only makes it worse for those of us that have been touched by it.

I’m sorry for him, gimme. And he’s not worth it.
thank you hedonist.
if i can take back that post i would but i can't now. i shouldn't have said anything. it reads like i have an axe to grind, when, like you said, it's not worth it.

I know a high school classmate that is a minister...his Mom died of covid a year or so ago and he still posts on FB every other day about how covid is a hoax, vaccine is a hoax, etc.
A neighborhood friend whose husband was in the hospital for 3-4 days on oxygen with covid who just recently posted anti-masking shit on FB.
The stupidity is just unreal.

ugh that is horrible. sorry to hear that.
yeah, i think the most tragic part of all of this aside from the deaths and the people that have long covid is the abject politicization of masks and vaccines. it did not have to be this bad.

I hear you, bud. And what's really crazy is you hear about these anit-masker and ant-vaxers who end up getting the virus (I know one, someone I've distanced myself from in all ways) and yet they are still somehow in denial. It makes zero sense.

A North Dakota GOP lawmaker helped organize an anti-vaccine rally. Then he got covid and couldn’t attend.
Days ahead of an anti-vaccine rally he helped organize, North Dakota lawmaker Jeff Hoverson, a Republican, urged his social media followers to gather on the steps of the state capitol on Monday to oppose coronavirus vaccine mandates.
“Noon Monday capital steps Bismarck. We The People rally,” Hoverson wrote on Facebook. “Extremely important for freedom from mandates legislation.”
But he did not make it to the event.
On Sunday, a day before the rally, Hoverson announced he would be skipping the event because he had contracted the coronavirus. He said that he did not need to check into a hospital because he was taking ivermectin — a deworming drug that some people are using to prevent or treat covid, despite several public health agencies advising against it.
Vaccinations are not 100% effective but, from everything I've read, the rising cases are due for the most part because there are still many who refuse to be vaccinated.
I am scheduled for my Moderna booster in 11 days. I'm not looking forward to feeling crappy again (my vaccination #2 was hell- I've never felt that sick before and I've had some doozies) but I'm looking forward to being further vaccinated!
