” I don’t say this lightly, but under the leadership of President Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid, and later President Biden and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Democrats have systematically tried to weaken the very guardrails that have protected our democracy for generations — all in the name of advancing their agenda.

Manchin was a perennial thorn in the side of Democratic leaders throughout his 14 years in the Senate. He stifled the party’s agenda on multiple fronts, especially during the Biden administration when Democrats had a 50-50 Senate majority.

The former pol has some choice words for Biden, including that the former president had “a very bad temper.” Manchin recalled that he once called Biden “reckless” to his face over the American Rescue Plan negotiations, telling Biden that he was “sending a fucking check to everyone.”

But Manchin also expressed some regret over key issues, including his initial opposition to Obamacare when he was serving as governor of West Virginia.

Manchin slams “woke” Dems. Manchin spends a considerable amount of time criticizing the Democratic Party for its ideological shift during the last 10 to 15 years.

The party was “once a big tent that welcomed diverse perspectives” but “has increasingly shifted toward ideological purity tests,” he writes.

“When the party pushes hard on woke ideology, DEI mandates, and other social agendas, it creates unnecessary divisions, alienates everyday citizens, and moves us further away from the commonsense middle ground where most Americans actually live their lives,” Manchin said.

Fuck Joe Manchurian and his ass backwards coal economy. Go back to the holler, you bum.

Example 1 from the gun topic.
Waaaaaah, poor Joe Manchurian. Was a member of a party where a majority thought coal was ass backwards and wanted to progress toward cleaner energy technology and rejected his position. Waaaaaaaah, nobody will pay for my yacht on the Potomac if I don’t get coal to be king again. Waaaaaaaah, the dems won’t talk to me because I’m holding up the whole party’s agenda because, snivel, snivel, coal. Waaaaaaah, the dems aren’t a big tent party and won’t listen to me. Waaaaaaaaaah.

Fuck him, he represents everything that is wrong with politics and is part of the old guard problem. Hey, CCOOTWH was going to bring coal back and make it king again, remember? Maybe there’s a job for him in the EPA? Fucking bum.

The only thing consistent around here is the lack of understanding. Consensus, it’s a thing.

Go to your next management meeting and demand to go back to rotary phones and tri-copy forms and paper in file cabinets. Then stamp your feet, pout and try to sabotage any initiative leadership is promoting. See how long you last. Then, while waiting for your unemployment benefits to kick in, write a book complaining about how your company isn’t a big tent company willing to listen to alternative ideas.

And I thought it was, “if you’re not with us, you’re with the terrorists?”

You make an example of wanting to go back to archaic means and methods while getting fired for them yet you state that you got fired for the company not listening to alternative ideas.

Being anti-woke is not sending us back into the stone age no matter what Trump tries to undo. Some setbacks for sure but not square 1.

This is where I thought you were going with this.
  • I keep seeing the complaint regarding United Airlines announcing that they want to have 50% of their pilots be minorities and women. In 2021, when they made this announcement, 7% of their pilots were women and 13% were minorities. What is the problem with stating this as a goal? If they recruit, train and the folks pass and qualify, what's the issue? That they announced it? Made it a goal? That any initiative to increase diversity must be at the expense of white males? Why is DEI considered "woke" and wrong?

If you woke up one day and flew on United, or were a business traveler, and recognized that there were more women and minority pilots than you were used to seeing, would you be concerned and be complaining? Would you stop flying United? Would you be like Charlie and question the qualifications and competency of the person at the controls?

  • The only thing consistent around here is the lack of understanding.

Also consistent is your bad analogies.
    How so?
You make an example of wanting to go back to archaic means and methods while getting fired for them yet you state that you got fired for the company not listening to alternative ideas.

Being anti-woke is not sending us back into the stone age no matter what Trump tries to undo. Some setbacks for sure but not square 1.

This is where I thought you were going with this.
I've never been fired from a job.

My analogy was a you as in general you, and the comparison was Manchurian wanting coal to be king again, despite the dem leadership and caucus wanting to go green, not to mention public polling, and a hypothetical of an employee wanting to go back to the old, outdated method of doing business. Coal, and by extension fossil fuels to some degree (we'll never eliminate all needs/uses), are the past, while solar, wind and fusion are the future. Manchurian threw a hissy fit when his desired outcome was rejected by dem leadership and the caucus.

good leaders will achieve consensus. bad leaders demand it.
Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer

    What's the freak out about?
The angle is that better qualified people were passed over in favor of the minorities.  They may have passed the tests but there were better qualified applicants.

so you’re  admitting you’ve never been targeted by DEI quotas?

the problem with your united airlines quota example  is exactly that. When they do a restructure they will look to their quotas for employment decisions. Perhaps Pear Jam should try out DEI quotas also if they’re so great?

I feel like we had this discussion back in the 40s and 50s with beisbol.  Back then, 95% of the players were white.  Now?  64%, the rest largely made up of latinos. (source

For all we know, white men may not be the best pilots out there.  I'm certainly open to that possibility based on the news lately.

Statistics support it. If 10% of the applicants are from group A and 90% from group B, but you are required to fill 50% of positions from group A, then statistically you will be passing over more qualified people from group B to fill the quota. It doesn't mean all of those who were hired from group A are bad or even unqualified, but, statistically speaking, you will have passed over more qualified candidates to meet that quota.

Manchurian threw a hissy fit when his desired outcome was rejected by dem leadership and the caucus.

so you’re  admitting you’ve never been targeted by DEI quotas?

the problem with your united airlines quota example  is exactly that. When they do a restructure they will look to their quotas for employment decisions. Perhaps Pear Jam should try out DEI quotas also if they’re so great?

I hear dolly parton can still sing?
Not that I’m aware of and if I were, oh well, I’m a white male with bestowed privileges and rights, many of which women and minorities don’t enjoy. If I were, I wouldn’t piss and moan about it but pick myself up by my bootstraps and try, try again.

Reorganizations, restructuring and related staffing are dictated to some degree by union rules as in seniority in the flight attendants and pilots unions. Last hired, first fired.

I’m guessing you’ve never worked in a union environment as a union member?

Pearl Jam doesn’t need a singer. They need a drummer. Can Dolly play the drums to the PJ catalog?
