Do you use and/or keep a Yellow Pages directory in 2021?

It is that time of year again -- some vandal, under the cover of night, tossed a large book in a bag onto our lawn.
This bag landed in a pile of snow.

Every year I get increasingly peeved over this action.

I do not ask for it.

It has been a solid 20 years since we even kept this book in our home.

Why would anyone under the age of dead need this giant waste of paper?

Poll is a simple question -- trying to see if I have any company in the people who wonder why in the hell this thing even still exists -- and why it ends up on our lawn every year.
(Straight to the recycling bin.  If we could shove it up the ass of the person who ordered these distributed I imagine that is where it should be put.)

We get delivered a slim yellow pages which I put in the cupboard but dont use. Every few years I dispose of them in the recycling. Perhaps it's useful for people without internet!

I don't think I've received one in forever?

We used to keep them for target practice.  It was an interesting experiment to see what bullets went in further than others.

I don't think we have got one in the last couple of years. If I remember correctly, when we dropped our land line they quit sending them to us. I do have a couple of older ones, but they include the "white pages" which has been beneficial a couple of time to look up the phone number of a person's residence. I live in a rural area, so our combined yellow/white pages is less that 1/2" thick. When I was growing up in San Jose California, that sucker was probably 4" thick.

Once in a while I see a few piled up in our lobby. No one seems to take them. The super likely puts them in recycling. I remember as a kid using both white pages and yellow pages. Come to think of it I don’t see that many paper menus piling up anymore either. I remember years ago finding menus that were actually slid under my door, or at least piles left in the lobby. It’s good we are reducing our paper load.

One year I left them on the side of the road in protest -- think there was a white pages and a yellow pages that year.  I bent after 3 weeks of seeing them there, and put them in the recycling bin.
Someone told me that I could open the bag and look inside for a number of "opt out" at.
    Fuck that.
    Never opted in.

All driven by greed -- even though most people do not seem to use them the shitbags who make them can claim to gullible advertising companies that "they are in x% or x# of homes" in the community because they saw fit to litter by throwing them on the lawns.

    Haven’t received one in years.

Growing up, I loved the White Pages (racist?!? 😂) for making prank calls to randomly chosen or funny names.

It just seems like a waste of paper in this era.

It's been many years, probably more than a decade, since I've gotten a yellow pages book.

We haven't gotten one in years, probably since we got rid of the landline.

There have been some extremely rare occasions when I would have liked to have one.  A couple of years ago, I was looking for a contractor for a new fence.  I knew exactly what I wanted.  But when I searched online, every entry came through Home Advisor or Angie's List or something similar.  So I was getting the same list of 10 or so businesses, most of which didn't sell what I wanted (vinyl fencing) or call me back.  It was so frustrating that eventually I was wishing for a plain old Yellow Pages where I could just look up some numbers.

Yes, but they don't send them out around here anymore so some of the numbers in the old one are no good anymore.

What a lovely idea @covered in bliss

I used to press flowers as a child and once I got a special machine made of wood and screws so I could press flowers without the use of heavy books.  I think the yellow pages is a lot slimmer now but perhaps it could work. It would be nice to try.

Last weekend whilst visiting one of my in laws, I noticed they had a copy of the (slim) yellow pages and on the front cover in large black letters it said, "Last edition" :bawling:

This post reminds me - does anyone call 411 anymore for information. Does it even still exist? I also remember calling the phone number for the weather every day before work, and once in a while calling the time. I think the number for the time started with 844 - “At the tone the time will be ....”
