When a madman hammered nearly to death the husband of then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump jeered and mocked. One of Trump’s sons and other close Trump supporters avidly promoted false claims that Paul Pelosi had somehow brought the onslaught upon himself through a sexual misadventure.
After
authorities apprehended a right-wing-extremist plot to abduct Michigan
Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Trump belittled the threat at a rally. He
disparaged Whitmer as a political enemy. His supporters chanted “Lock
her up.” Trump laughed and replied, “Lock them all up.”
Fascism
feasts on violence. In the years since his own supporters attacked the
Capitol to overturn the 2020 election—many of them threatening harm to
Speaker Pelosi and Vice President Mike Pence—Trump has championed the
invaders, would-be kidnappers, and would-be murderers as martyrs and
hostages. He has vowed to pardon them if returned to office. His own staffers have testified to the glee with which Trump watched the mayhem on television.
Now
the bloodshed that Trump has done so much to incite against others has
touched him as well. The attempted murder of Trump—and the killing of a
person nearby—is a horror and an outrage. More will be learned about the
man who committed this appalling act, and who was killed by the Secret
Service. Whatever his mania or motive, the only important thing about
him is the law-enforcement mistake that allowed him to bring a deadly
weapon so close to a campaign event and gain a sight line of the
presidential candidate. His name should otherwise be erased and
forgotten.

Does his political affiliation even matter? I think it’s safe to say he wasn’t a fan of Trump based on his actions. The problem here is that MAGA is so deeply ingrained in conspiracy theories they are treating this like it’s a political assignation attempt ordered by the Democrats as a whole and not the deranged actions of an individual. This is a brilliant essay, and I urge everyone to read it.
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
The problem is this is starting to become more of the norm. This is NOT how we decide who gets elected in this country. However, I can point a finger at Trump for making this more of the norm.
“Nearly four in 10 of them agree that true American patriots may have to resort to violence to save the country, compared to only 7 in 10 of those who fully reject those views,” Jones said. “So we see this very consistent pattern where it's not nonexistent on the left, but it is something on the order of three times more prevalent on the right than on the left.”

I stand by what I said. Voter registration doesn’t mean much. And neither does one contribution. I never said it meant more. Just pointed out the only 2 things that were public knowledge (but Kat posted the donation wasn’t true, I haven’t followed up on that yet).
I’ll reserve judgment on what his motives and political views were until more facts are released. That seems like a pretty reasonable stance to me.

It is sure easy to see the Russian propaganda pop up after an event like this. Almost immediately I was seeing TikToks and memes that the shooter was an Antifa member, that Biden had called off secret service protection, etc.

I think the biggest error here is that a secret service member wasn't on top of the roof that the shooter used. In hindsight it was clearly a monumental error but it makes no sense as to why that area would have been completely left open.

yeah...it's crazy. Witnesses saw the gunman moving from roof to roof. A cop climbed up and saw the guy...how was tRump still on that stage? I know the shooting probably happened fairly quickly but you have to think that the snipers would have been on the same frequency and alerted everyone.
I have heard reports that they had to wait for the shooter to actually start shooting but I don't believe that shit.

Violence stalks the president who has rejoiced in violence to others.
When a madman hammered nearly to death the husband of then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump jeered and mocked. One of Trump’s sons and other close Trump supporters avidly promoted false claims that Paul Pelosi had somehow brought the onslaught upon himself through a sexual misadventure.
After authorities apprehended a right-wing-extremist plot to abduct Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Trump belittled the threat at a rally. He disparaged Whitmer as a political enemy. His supporters chanted “Lock her up.” Trump laughed and replied, “Lock them all up.”
Fascism feasts on violence. In the years since his own supporters attacked the Capitol to overturn the 2020 election—many of them threatening harm to Speaker Pelosi and Vice President Mike Pence—Trump has championed the invaders, would-be kidnappers, and would-be murderers as martyrs and hostages. He has vowed to pardon them if returned to office. His own staffers have testified to the glee with which Trump watched the mayhem on television.
Now the bloodshed that Trump has done so much to incite against others has touched him as well. The attempted murder of Trump—and the killing of a person nearby—is a horror and an outrage. More will be learned about the man who committed this appalling act, and who was killed by the Secret Service. Whatever his mania or motive, the only important thing about him is the law-enforcement mistake that allowed him to bring a deadly weapon so close to a campaign event and gain a sight line of the presidential candidate. His name should otherwise be erased and forgotten.
