Biden on Morning Joe is the Biden that needed to be at the debate. He was on fire.
The problem is like 200,000 people watched that compared to 50,000,000 who watched the debate.

If he doesn't drop out and has another episode like he did during the debate in a month from now...then what?

"Meeting with Xi - hope we get Morning Joe Prez and not Debate Prez. Fingers crossed."

    You cannot function like that.

This ignores the problem which is that a declining number of people agree with you

Joe can do a debate on morning Joe every other day and CNN all the other days and not reach half the voters that the debate did. But..he will now always be one embarrassing slip from proving the naysayers right and the democrats as liars.

And Trump now gets to skate by on what he has said, done, will do or will say as usual. Seems about right. They can be critical of Biden and continue to hammer how much worse Trump is and always has been.
    It's a hopeless situation...

tRump's VP pick is going to be really interesting...

Vance is probably the best from a right wing nazi standpoint.

I can't imagine him picking Rubio but who knows. Maybe we'll get that curveball like Flynn.

Haley? Not sure if tRump can handle that.

At one point I would have been interested in Rubio on the big stage.  Him falling in line with trump since has changed that for me.  Haley's recent comment about her voters supporting trump may have soured her for me forever as well.

Back in 2015/2016, I was actually hoping Rubio would come out of that nomination process, but now, meh. He had potential to be a decent conservative candidate and now he's just a step above Ted Cruz in likeability. Cruz is still the most punchable. What a douche.

I read something where Rubio would pose a potential problem because of something in the constitution of the Prez and VP not being from the same state?

The 12th Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1804 to modify the Electoral College process -- specifically how the president and vice president are selected at once. If Trump selected Rubio as his running mate, electors from Florida could not vote for both Trump and Rubio under the 12th Amendment

But from what I have heard it is easy to get around if they truly want to....move.

In 2016, he picked Pence because Pence was a boring old politician. That doesn't have to be a consideration anymore.

While this might not matter to Trump, I suspect there are lots of people in the party that want someone that will have the courage to do what Pence would not do...that is vow never to certify a presidential election to a Democrat. That is where the party and the country are.

After that, Trump could go for attractive women (Noem, or if she's too old, Tulski). Maybe, as pointed out before, someone like Vance who will be all-in on dictatorship and stepping aside so Ivanka or Junior can run in four years. Of course, there are a lot of Trump toadies to choose from.

I've always felt like Tulski would be a wise choice. The whole "Democrat turned MAGA" thing might send a message about moving to MAGA because of how crazy the Dems have become (LOL, but lots of people believe that).  She also won't stand between Trump and Vlad. She's a woman, which can help when the Dems have a female running mate. And she'll be all-in on authoritarianism.

Indeed. The only thing I would have liked to see was for him to have replied to the last question, about his misspeaking and saying "Vice President Trump" instead of "Vice President Harris," by saying: "Are you fucking serious? Do you seriously believe that I can't tell the difference between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump? Are you that stupid or lazy to even dignify that idiotic criticism? Do you remember when Barack Obama misspoke and said that he'd been to 57 states? No person could have believed in good faith that Barack Obama didn't know how many states there are, and yet Republicans tried to make that a thing. Get a life. I just stood up here and answered pointed questions about foreign and domestic policy more cogently and sanely than Donald Trump could ever dream of doing, and you want to talk about me misspeaking and saying 'Vice President Trump.' Go fuck yourselves. Now I'm going to get back to doing my job."

this is exactly what drives me bonkers about the media. Biden clearly can run circles around trump with regards to policy, and people keep focusing on these stupid "gaffes". everyone misspeaks. Biden included. He always has. It was a running joke he himself made calling himself a gaffe machine. all trump can muster is "we're doing incredible things" while handling his invisible accordion.

It's the difference between the political press and substantive journalism. The political press is famously perceived to have a liberal bias, and a lot of them are indeed liberal, but that's not their real bias. Their real bias is toward trashy gossip about the horse race. Actual reporting is expensive and difficult. Opinions are cheap and easy. Most of these people don't understand policy, or bend over backwards to both-sides everything. Just look at David Sanger for an example of an actual journalist with a deep understanding of the policy area he covers presenting a substantive question about strategy regarding the China-Russia relationship. Most of the White House press corps is not capable of that, but they're very capable of breathlessly reporting the anonymous gossip that their sources on the Hill have leaked to them with no accountability.

I did not but I will concede that he was sharp there and has been at other times. That said, there are just too many times when he hasn't been. And while I'm not qualified to diagnose dementia (and I don't necessarily think he official has it), the "good times/bad times" he displays remind me of it. Dementia or not, he's sharp far less than 100% of the time. This tells me he's not really fit to have a job that is being worked far more than 40 hours a week and is on-call 24/7. The fact that I'm still going to vote for him is not a good sign of where we're at right now (both in terms of the nefariousness of what the GOP/MAGA want to do and the country's ability to get good candidates it's most important job).

New Marist poll.  This is considered an A+ poll by 538.  Great summary and worth the quick read.  Only downside is that it's national,  and with the election being so tight, it's less useful.  But it does have really good information about how the candidates are perceived

The hypocrisy of those polled around mental acuity between the candidates is ridiculous. I get the concern for Biden, but to see Trump poll higher on mental acuity is stupid. Speaking nonsense loud and at length doesn't equate to acuity. He's never been able to provide any type of substance or critical thinking and it's even got worse the last 4 years, but ok, perception is reality I guess.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I moderately disagree. He is a high functioning liar.
