michigan just certified the election results that biden won. it is all over. biden will be president.

That's big news.  It should not be big news that a state Biden won by 150,000 votes was certified on time, but it is.  And I love seeing the law firm of Dumb and Dumber get schooled every day...

(Takes one step back from the ledge.)
So...you're not breathing through paper bags anymore? lol

Also, it's not really big news to those of use who know their efforts were futile. It's all theatrics.
I go up and down (as evidence by how quiet I am until I burst out in hyperbole about a one-party system).

That said, no, I don't think the election is over. But between this, more court failures, Emily Murphy starting to do her job, and a few GOP senators (privately) badmouthing Trump, I feel a bit better. So why am I not 99.99%?  Because the GQP was so, so close to one-party control. The Supreme Court exists in his image (Of course, the lower courts are probably going to keep SCOTUS out of it). And there's just so much will in this country to fight for this man, be it for the party or the cult. I kinda know how it looks to "normal" people. I guess I feel roughly how I'd feel if my team, the Vikings, had a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl...just waitin' for the other shoe to drop. And stranger things have happened.

Over? No. But the prognosis is improving...
    Looking forward to inauguration day!

That’s probably when my sigh of relief occurs. And miss Trump goes MIA before that.

Even though very few people are as worried about it as I am, Trump’s behavior has really put a damper on things. For example we just elected our first woman, not to mention woman of color, to the office of vice president. Biden is putting his team together and all the news it’s about a whiny petulant baby, his whiny petulant family, and a bunch of enablers.
I’m as worried as you are until he is out of office.

Well, there was a fair election to elect Jim to the position, no mail in ballots though.

You mean down-ballot elections?  You'd think.  I haven't heard of a single GQP candidate in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, etc. squawking about how they actually won.  Most of their flimsy accusations would, at least intuitively, hurt other Republicans. In a sense, I'm kinda surprised we're not hearing more about others from the GQP that "actually won by a landslide."  Maybethis pile of bullshit has always been about the ego, feelings, and freedom of one man.

My point was that the EC could in theory* force into scrutinizing 51 elections, some of which are close.  Biden has a 6 million vote advantage in the popular vote.  That's beyond impossible to imagine flipping.  We'd probably still have 50 states (and DC) counting votes, but taking a couple hundred in a few of them in recounts would not matter a lot.  Let's get crazy and take away 3 million Biden votes and he still wins by 3 million.

Now?  You have  51 smaller elections, which is 50 additional opportunities for super-close elections.

*In theory you could have 51 elections with margins of less than 1,000.  Imagine that nightmare. Now, this election would not have been close enough for any presidential candidate from 1788 to 2012 to challenge, but here we are.  I don't anticipate the GQP changing this approach, regardless of who their candidate is.

It's a problem with the EC, which is a problem with the Constitution. But it's not going to change.

If I understand correctly, the constitution determines its up to the states to hold their elections however they choose. Thus, recounts and things about the election that can be challenged, how votes are counted, deadline dates, mail versus absentee and the process by which you’re eligible, etc, all that minutia, is left to the states via the constitution. The EC is just the post election madness of electors doing the voter’s bidding, and even that process, choosing electors, rules for how they vote, is left to the states via the constitution. I’m just not following why you’re blaming the EC for 51 different ways of doing something, voting and the subsequent contesting of same? You could eliminate the EC and you’d still have 51 ways to Tuesday.

232,800+ margin in Minnesota for Sleepy Woke Joe Basement Biden and 80M+ total nationwide, 10M more than Obama. It ain't going nowhere. The true patriotic Americans have spoken. And isn't 51 elections more an issue with the Constitution rather than the Electoral College?

Well that's true. But I don't think it's reasonable to expect no re-counts with margins of less than 1%.  The real reason the Constitution does this is because in the early days most states didn't even have a popular vote. State legislatures could select who the state is voting for. (I think that may still be legal to this day...)

We're splitting hairs on kind of a side-comment I made to people in Minnesota trying to delay certification. I'm simply saying that Biden's 6 million popular gap would be easy to digest. One election to bitch about. Because we have something called the electoral college, regardless of how it's operated, we have 51.

Fuck that mumbo jumbo gumbo making friends sissy shit. What we need is a white male business leader who knows where women belong and to tell people that ‘Murica comes first and if you’re not selling at the right price, go get fucked because it’s all about Murica because we’re god’s chosen people. Well, some of us anyway and we’re first and always first and don’t you ever, never ever forget it. That’s what ‘Murica needs. The long slow decline has begun.

    By Jeff Mason

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he will leave the White House if the Electoral College votes for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden.

In the nearest he has come to a concession, Republican Trump said if Biden is certified the election winner by the Electoral College he will depart the White House. Biden is due to be inaugurated on Jan. 20.

The Electoral College is due to meet on Dec. 14.

Trump made the comments at the White House after speaking to U.S. troops during the traditional Thanksgiving Day address to U.S. servicemembers.

Biden won the Nov. 3 presidential election with 306 Electoral College votes - many more than the 270 required - to Trump's 232. Biden also leads Trump by more than 6 million in the popular vote tally.

Trump has so far refused to concede the election and continues to claim without evidence that the election was marred by widespread fraud, and that he and not Biden won it.

He is a big Trump guy and has had a bet with another coworker for $100 That Trump would win. This started back in November and now he isn't honouring his bet. Hi still think Trump is getting in. Just think it's wrong!

Appeals court rejects Trump challenge of Pennsylvania race
    By MARYCLAIRE DALE

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — President Donald Trump’s legal team suffered yet another defeat in court Friday as a federal appeals court in Philadelphia roundly rejected the campaign's latest effort to challenge the state’s election results.

Trump’s lawyers vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court despite the judges' assessment that the “campaign’s claims have no merit.”

“Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here,” 3rd Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote for the three-judge panel.

The case had been argued last week in a lower court by Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who insisted during five hours of oral arguments that the 2020 presidential election had been marred by widespread fraud in Pennsylvania. However, Giuliani failed to offer any tangible proof of that in court.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann had said the campaign's error-filled complaint, “like Frankenstein’s Monster, has been haphazardly stitched together” and denied Giuliani the right to amend it for a second time.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals called that decision justified. The three judges on the panel were all appointed by Republican presidents. including Bibas, a former University of Pennsylvania law professor appointed by Trump. Trump’s sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, sat on the court for 20 years, retiring in 2019.

“Voters, not lawyers, choose the president. Ballots, not briefs, decide elections,” Bibas said in the opinion, which also denied the campaign's request to stop the state from certifying its results, a demand he called “breathtaking.”

In fact, Pennsylvania officials had certified their vote count Monday for President-elect Joe Biden, who defeated Trump by more than 80,000 votes in the state. Nationally, Biden and running mate Kamala Harris garnered nearly 80 million votes, a record in U.S. presidential elections.

Trump has said he hopes the Supreme Court will intervene in the race as it did in 2000, when its decision to stop the recount in Florida gave the election to Republican George W. Bush. On Nov. 5, as the vote count continued, Trump posted a tweet saying the “U.S. Supreme Court should decide!”

Ever since, Trump and his surrogates have attacked the election as flawed and filed a flurry of lawsuits to try to block the results in six battleground states. But they’ve found little sympathy from judges, nearly all of whom dismissed their complaints about the security of mail-in ballots, which millions of people used to vote from home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump perhaps hopes a Supreme Court he helped steer toward a conservative 6-3 majority would be more open to his pleas, especially since the high court upheld Pennsylvania’s decision to accept mail-in ballots through Nov. 6 by only a 4-4 vote last month. Since then, Trump nominee Amy Coney Barrett has joined the court.

“The activist judicial machinery in Pennsylvania continues to cover up the allegations of massive fraud,” Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis tweeted after Friday's ruling. “On to SCOTUS!”

In the case before Brann, the Trump campaign asked to disenfranchise the state’s 6.8 million voters, or at least the 700,000 who voted by mail in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other Democratic-leaning areas.

“One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption,” Brann wrote in his scathing ruling on Nov. 21. “That has not happened.”

A separate Republican challenge that reached the Pennsylvania Supreme Court this week seeks to stop the state from further certifying any races on the ballot. Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration is fighting that effort, saying it would prevent the state’s legislature and congressional delegation from being seated in the coming weeks.

On Thursday, Trump said the Nov. 3 election was still far from over. Yet he offered the clearest signal to date that he would leave the White House peaceably on Jan. 20 if the Electoral College formalizes Biden’s win.

“Certainly I will. But you know that,” Trump said at the White House, taking questions from reporters for the first time since Election Day.

On Friday, however, he continued to baselessly attack Detroit, Atlanta and other Democratic cities with large Black populations as the source of “massive voter fraud.” And he claimed, without evidence, that a Pennsylvania poll watcher had uncovered computer memory drives that “gave Biden 50,000 votes” apiece.

All 50 states must certify their results before the Electoral College meets on Dec. 14, and any challenge to the results must be resolved by Dec. 8. Biden won both the Electoral College and popular vote by wide margins.
