Not surprising but quite telling that so many attacking this decision are coming at it from the "HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT OUR GOVERNMENT! YOU MUST WATCH CNN!" angle. It's a default position for too many nowadays. Absolute blindness that they too are guilty of making this a political issue.

Would be cool if they did a live simulcast type show to tide us over, kind of like a combination of Radiohead "Live From the Basement" and Self-Pollution Radio.
    Great idea

All these people - "you made the right decision." Are you freaking kidding? Based on what? Some paranoid lunatics on CNN? This is absolute insanity. We never learn. Swine flu, ebola, bird flu, etc. Such a shame the band gave in to hysteria.
Don’t forget we can’t go outside after dusk because of EEE.

Next shoe to drop. But like yesterday they won't cancel until they absolutely have to. Everyone hopes this will be behind us by the summer.

I'm just as bummed/pissed as anyone, but it's a really weak move to blame the government for their decisions.  Just man up and own the calls you made.  It just adds more dissent and anger to an already crappy situation.
Two paragraphs, right next to each other.

"We’ve worked hard with all our management and business associates to find other solutions or options but the levels of risk to our audience and their communities is simply too high for our comfort level. Add to that we also have a unique group of passionate fans who travel far and wide. We’ve always been humbled by this and respect their energies and devotion. However in this case, travel is something to avoid.

It certainly hasn’t helped that there’s been no clear messages from our government regarding people’s safety and our ability to go to work. Having no examples of our national health department’s ability to get ahead of this, we have no reason to believe that it will be under control in the coming weeks ahead. "

I disagree that they're "blaming the government", and I don't see how you can disagree with that portion of the statement even. Read that paragraph and tell me where it's false.

    +1

I feel for anyone who is losing money as a result, or may not be able to make the rescheduled dates. That sucks.

PJ is seeing firsthand what’s happening in Seattle... I trust their judgement.

Defensive Trump supporters should stfu, he’s bungled this every step of the way.
Why does EVERYTHING some how boil down to L vs R, Trump supporters vs “snowflakes”
and every other BS term that has managed to insert the Left vs Right paradigm into every facet of our lives?

Not everything needs to be politicized

The biggest snowflakes in this thread are the ones whining about how Pearl Jam mentioned the lack of clear messaging from our government in response to this.

Considering it was less than a week ago that Dear Leader suggested “thousands, or even hundreds of thousands” are getting better by “just sitting around or even going to work”, I think it’s a very valid complaint for the band, or any other American to make.

It’s ok to say this administration bungled the response to this. It’s also reality.
    Actually China Bungled it.

Tough call, but ultimately the right decision. People are dying and we should all be erring on the side of caution. I have opinions on politics, but this is not about that.

criticize me all you want but this band never cancelled shows over people dying of cancer or drug overdoses which have killed more than this virus...im starting to think that some of us grew up and away from this band and started to think for ourselves

I will criticize you for comparing a highly communicable disease to drug ODs and Cancer as if they’re the same thing. When was the last time you saw someone catch cancer from someone else’s sneeze?
The ignorance being exposed here tonight is absolutely mind blowing.

@pjalive21 Honestly: I have never seen anyone here posting so much bullshit !! The band's decision is correct. Respect for it !!!

Most Pearl Jam fans I've met seem like good, decent people.  Unfortunately, Pearl Jam also have some of the most entitled, borderline psychopathic horrorshow followers of any other band currently active.   Just humongous adult babies.  Embarrassed for some of you.

The uneducated, immature and naive posts here are staggering. I’m as disappointed as anyone but also understand it’s the right decision. Overblown or not, this sickness is spreading quickly - worldwide - and people are seriously ill and dying. If we ignore what experts are saying is the best way to avoid getting sick or passing it on, then it surely won’t be overblown. Proactive not reactive. Losing money on flights and hotels sucks - it’s happened to all of us - but look at the bigger, MUCH more important picture here.  Peace, patience and health.

With all due respect, it’s not just Pearl Jam. Pretty much most bands that have a die hard fan element to them, have segments of the fan base that are a bit unhinged. They believe they are superfans and that the band is “theirs” and others don’t get it. It leads to a compulsive(in a bad way) mindset that leads to things like ga fights, or merch wars, or dismissing others opinions as inconsequential. They really believe they are better than the rest and the band is just for them.

I’ve seen it in most fanbases unfortunately
