I'm pretty sure I read just today that the incident rate on that is 16 in every million. Seems quite low.Ledbetterman10 said:The vaccine might be causing heart inflammation in people aged 16-24. CDC is holding an emergency meeting.

There does seem to be a correlation, but in addition to the incident rate being low, 80% of the cases they're seeing post vaccine have been mild.
COVID19 can also cause myocarditis; among other cases, Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez missed all of last season when he developed it after contracting COVID.
Regardless, it's definitely something to keep an eye on.0 -
I wonder then if it’s a matter of a pre-existing heart condition (that people weren’t feeling the effects of due to overall good health) being exasperated by covid and/or the vaccine.Merkin Baller said:mrussel1 said:

That certainly seems plausible, and hopefully something they will be able to determine through case studies of those affected.Ledbetterman10 said:

A little melodramatic, no?Ledbetterman10 said:
That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying young people that might not have needed the vaccine are being advised to get it (or forced by their colleges), and they might develop myocarditis from it.mrussel1 said:

Well whatever it is, it’s warranting an “emergency meeting.” And the hospitalization rate of people in that age range contracting covid is probably pretty low too. Yet colleges are demanding their students get the vaccine.mrussel1 said:

Well would “required” by their colleges be more suitable? Here’s a list of all the colleges that require you take the vaccine.dankind said:

My son attends a college that requires it. I'm not concerned. Although he needs to get his ass moving and get it.Ledbetterman10 said:

Second, my point about myocarditis not being contagious is that while COVID is not as dangerous for young people, they can transmit it to other people just as easy as anyone else. 16/1MM incident rate tells me that it's still the right thing for society.0 -
"Still, the higher-than-normal incidence is worthy of further scrutiny. The CDC will hold a meeting of its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices on June 18 to further look at the evidence and assess the risk of myocarditis following vaccination."Ledbetterman10 said:

That doesn't exactly scream "emergency" to me. Yeah, considering myocarditis can also be brought on by COVID, not to mention all the other problems that come along w/ the virus, this doesn't jump out at me as a reason not to get the vaccine, at least not based on what we know so far.

What is the incidence per million of that condition without a vaccination?
Is it comparable to what they discovered when some were vaxxed or way higher?Falling down,...not staying down0 -
226 vs 100. it didn't say a per million, just overall numbers for that age group.Kat said:What is the incidence per million of that condition without a vaccination?

There's always a loop hole. We've played this game with our kids' schools for years because we follow an alternative vaccination schedule so they don't always have them when the school requires.Ledbetterman10 said:

From that article above:Medical exemptions are guaranteed by law in all states, and religious exemptions, which are relatively easy to receive, are permitted by most. To reinforce the mandate, colleges could push unvaccinated students to enroll online instead.
If allowed on campus, unvaccinated students will likely be required to continue asymptomatic testing and could be excluded from activities like studying abroad.

The Innova rapid screening test widely used in the UK gets a very poor review from the FDA, who recommends that they just get thrown in the garbage. Another piece of bad news for the UK, with case numbers rising again and likely to slow down further reopening.

Earlier this month Moderna followed Pfizer BioNTech in submitting an application to the FDA for full approval of their respective vaccines. It's estimated that it may take up to 6 months to review the dossiers, but assuming one or both get full FDA approval this could sway some of the vaccine-hesitant who have been wary about the EUA designation. It will be interesting to see how many of those who reported that they didn't trust the vaccines because they were "rushed" and not fully approved will be willing to get vaccinated when those reasons no longer apply.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

So Eddie's buddy is a moron.
[Rogers] Anthony Rizzo just told @thekapman and @tweetjhood on ESPN 1000 he’s one of the guys not vaccinated on the Cubs. Said it was a tough decision but chose not to.

Cool. I am visiting my parents and we went out to dinner tonight. It was my first indoor dining since before Covid. I have eaten many times with outdoor dining, but it was weird being inside a restaurant. It felt great!!mcgruff10 said:Felt good tonight. Pretty proud of my country right now stepping up and getting vaccinated. I do know a handful of people that are only willing to get the first jab since there are incentives to be partially vaccinated this summer. Hopefully there are not too many like that out there and we can hit the 75% with double shots by August as they are projecting.

At the start it was that is why they spaced out first and second shots as far as they did. Get more people with 1 shot having more people with some protection rather than a smaller amount of people with more protection. Now the push is to make sure everyone is on board with their second shot. Looking at that timeline getting from roughly 4% to 75% with second doses will take half the time as it did for us to get there with our first shots.mickeyrat said:PJNB said:Pretty proud of my country right now stepping up and getting vaccinated. Also this is not total population. This is eligible population meaning only 12 and up factors into these numbers.0
