The first time around a flat payment to everyone without discretion made perfect sense, just like the laxity of the PPP loans going out without testing need made sense...relief was needed immediately, without the delay of red tape.
That was a LONG, LONG time ago, and Congress has done almost nothing since then!!   In the intervening time, Congress should have been able to build a targeted stimulus that replaced lost income in service industry businesses that have suffered and help replace lost wealth in the population without giving to those who didn't lose anything.  They also could have passed a tax bill that targets income increases during the pandemic to cover part of the debt incurred by the bill.  The billionaires of this country could send every citizen 3000$ and still be richer than they were when the pandemic started, and the "stimulus" includes yet more tax breaks directed at them.
    This country is so fucked.

It’s a slap in the face, I’d actually be okay with this one getting vetoed.

Do you get some money from this with 5 kids, if you make over $200k as a couple?
Supposed to only apply to singles making 75k or couples making 150k or less. But you get $600 per adult and for each dependent.

The size of this relief Bill, if it was targeted just at families making 150k or less, that would equal to something like $3,700 per person, not $600.
Even accounting for the rent program and unemployment boost, still makes you wonder how they widdlled it down to just $600.

What's even dumber is that Trump is doubling down on a blanket $2,000 payment and Pelosi is immediately hopping on board and telling republicans to do it. Yet Thom Tillis got his piracy law in the bill and Trump gets 1.4 billion for border walls and security. Would I like to get all that free money, sure, but I definitely don't need it and neither do millions of Americans. So stupid they couldn't do a better job of infusing businesses and those who have lost income/jobs the last 10 months, but that would have meant working together and gathering data.
    It's a hopeless situation...

This.  It really is mind boggling that this is the best they could come up with over several months.  It was mentioned earlier that the first round gets a pass due to the immediate and urgent nature of putting it together.  This round allowed so much time to properly plan and prepare a comprehensive package for individuals and businesses that need it most, yet they failed on many levels, which is not surprising in the least.

This is totally a “what can the government do for you” example that I hope everyone learns from.  Take care of yourselves, the government will not take care of you.  People taking care of others is what needs to happen...I personally donate twice as much as this bullshit handout every month.

I guess we should be happy they didn’t set the relief limit at 174k instead of 75k then

Moderna vaccine approved by Health Canada today and we should have 168,000 doses by the end of December, which is coming up pretty close.

I mentioned this to my wife last night when I read trump's comment criticizing the amount. I couldn't believe I agreed with him. No idea why he wants people to think he gives a fuck at this point, but he's right. It's unreal that congress is patting itself on the back for $600 one time payment.

these fuckers are so out of touch with reality. On what planet do we encourage people to get into politics for the wealth?

I'm hoping for moderna. one shot. it apparently not only prevents symptoms, but also transmission. (at least I think that's what I read; don't want to spread misinformation if that's not the case)

    Source?

The first statement is incorrect - Moderna requires two doses.

The second, to the best of my understanding, is unknown - we don’t have enough data for either vaccine to know if transmission is affected or not. This was not a primary endpoint in the studies.
