Yep.....great news.  Heading in the right direction but our dipshit governor still won't ease the restrictions based on the metrics that he set.  Just keeps moving the goalposts back!  But I'm sure he'll have no problem taking all the credit for the numbers going down even though the cases peaked same day as the new restrictions went into place.  And yeah, still waiting for the Thanksgiving surge where we're all going to die!!!  Not downplaying the virus, but the fear porn from the media has been ridiculous.

What facts are you even talking about?  The fact remain, the border IS NOT CLOSED.  If you are not a citizen of Canada or do not have residency...then they have no business entering Canada...if you are leaving, upon returning they should have to check into a hotel for 14 days at their expense monitored by CBP.

Jeesh.  The government tries to tell me I can not got 20 miles to visit relatives...but they have no problem with these SELFISH people coming and going...

 

the fact that you called trudeau a liar for stating the border was closed. he never said that. stop moving the goal posts. if you have a problem with who is let in the country and who isn't, fine, but he never lied about it.

The fact that no one in government ever claimed the border was completely closed, for one.   

And the fact that you are arguing for an action that will have no beneficial effect on COVID cases but will have a significantly negative effect on the economy, quality of life, employment, and a host of other issues.

That virus x is a scary thing and as much as few if anyone wants it to happen, from a science perspective, the possibility of a major pandemic with far greater mortality rates than COVID is not surprising.  It's what nature does to control population and restore balances.  Our huge numbers and our propensity to travel more broadly because of our modes of transportation have set into motion a response from nature that sucks, but makes perfect sense.  If we learned to curb our growing numbers and didn't travel as much as we do, we would improve our chances of survival.  But having kids is a natural instinct and travel is fascinating and enjoyable, so I guess we just can't have it both ways in doing what is natural and what we want without consequences.

i just really hope it's a long ways away from now.

He’s openly moved the goal posts during the game on so many occasions, it’s laughable.  “Hey, Illinoisans. If our positivity rate drops below X we’ll move out of this tier.  Oh wait.  We just fell below X, but we’re going to stick with the restrictions because we think something bad is coming.”  And that’s why most establishments are telling him to fly a kite by not adhering to the restrictions, all while doing it safely and responsibly.  Good for them.

Yeah I've lost probably around 12-15k this past year.  We were also able to survive but so many are on the brink of no return.  $600 a person is a joke.

The first time around a flat payment to everyone without discretion made perfect sense, just like the laxity of the PPP loans going out without testing need made sense...relief was needed immediately, without the delay of red tape.
That was a LONG, LONG time ago, and Congress has done almost nothing since then!!   In the intervening time, Congress should have been able to build a targeted stimulus that replaced lost income in service industry businesses that have suffered and help replace lost wealth in the population without giving to those who didn't lose anything.  They also could have passed a tax bill that targets income increases during the pandemic to cover part of the debt incurred by the bill.  The billionaires of this country could send every citizen 3000$ and still be richer than they were when the pandemic started, and the "stimulus" includes yet more tax breaks directed at them.

I didn't think of the gains tax....

You rightly point out that it is ridiculous that there is not really any specificity with this round.  I would hope that companies need to demonstrate significant losses due to the pandemic to get the PPP loans this time.  
My company was about 40% off due to this shit.
