My father has a date for the first dose of vaccine next Tuesday..Pfizer or Moderna..
That is awesome, A. I think I heard that Pfizer had few side effects. My parents are getting their second shot of Moderna on Friday. I am very relieved about that.

I'm a little bit worrie to be honest.. are yours ok??
How many days between two doses??
My parents did fine after the first shot. Just a sore arm. I think it has been a few weeks. I can’t remember exactly. My Aunt and Uncle who are near my parents age just had their second shot. My aunt had mild flu like symptoms but my uncle had no side effects. It is hard to predict, I have heard that older people have fewer severe side effects, so try not to worry. It is a good thing that they are getting vaccinated.

Both of my parents have had both of their Moderna shots and suffered minimal side effects (arm soreness and fatigue was about all).  It seems to be younger people with stronger immune systems that are taking it harder.  I felt flu-like for a couple days after each shot, but feel invincible now, lol

World wide cases and deaths are at the lowest they have been since October. I have thought this multiple times since the pandemic but hopefully this is the sign that we need to finally have a control on this virus and be able to get back to normal once more vaccines roll out.

Anyone else who is vaccinated trying to fight off feelings of being an invincible cowboy that don't give a fuck about anyone else? 🤣

Seriously though, we have taken pandemic precautions more seriously than anyone we know for a year now...it's hard not to feel like, "well fuck it, let's get together and party, it's their problem not mine!"
Come this summer, we will mask when appropriate, but concerts, restaurants, boat parties...it's probably gonna be a free-for-all...or as much of a free-for-all as you can imagine for country folk with less than a handful of friends lol

I feel a need to follow up my levity with a disclaimer that I know this is serious and that people are still suffering.  We are very lucky to be among the first humans ever to receive this revolutionary new medical advance and I hope the rollout is smooth and fast for everyone who just wants to get back to normal life.

Enjoy, gambo. I’ll be on the sidelines; just can’t afford to be so laissez-faire though fuck knows I wish I could. Probably won’t have the opportunity for an early vaccine even with my shit health. Life’s not gonna be the same for me anymore. I imagine for others too.

Maybe we’ll be the new minority

I’m definitely going to start looking at having cookouts and eating out with vaccinated friends and family.

There is a huge line up in the downtown east side Vancouver for testing today as people experiencing homelessness are being offered SRO - single room occupancy, alcohol, and opiates if they need to self-isolate.

Maybe they should hand out free cannabis and quit poisoning people....

Interesting fact: both work on the same brain receptor. I wished thc was on the menu when I had my kid! Unfortunately, thc won't help opioid addicts presently. Did you know Canada is starting to manufacture our own so we don't depend on Sweden for heroin alternatives?

    • That doesn't make sense. I'm sure our health practitioners are smarter than that and that most clients are already registered opiod users for methadone, anyhow. Not too many potheads-only live on the streets in the DTES.

Also, I might add, the street opioids are more poisonous than ever after our borders closed and cause more deaths than legal, prescribed alternatives.

Anyhow back to covid: hedonist, that was a sad thought thinking about being a minority!

More like envy than annoyance. I’m truly happy for anyone who can get it.

Aside from friendly ribbing, I haven’t seen much assholeism in this aspect of the virus.

    A rarity, methinks.

They need a list and sharpies. Jeesh, don't they know how to run a line?

The coronavirus vaccine rollout has been chaotic and confusing in many states, leaving some elderly residents and front-line workers unprotected, while those further down the priority list have been able to obtain shots. That’s leading to a new affliction: vaccine envy.

“Somebody’s got to be the first to say it,” said Aaron Foley, 36, a writer in New York. He grew up in Detroit, where he says the rollout is going well, and every time he opens Facebook, he sees another vaccine selfie from family and friends still there. “There’s starting to be a lot of people in my orbit, one by one, who are getting their first dose,” Foley said. “I think the envy might come from everybody takes the picture of them either getting the shot or posting the little vaccine card” on social media sites. “It’s getting to be more and more of an endurance race. The frustrating part is we’re so close, yet so far away.”

Michele Parisi, 52, who works in health-care communications in the San Francisco Bay area, likens the wait to standing in line for concert tickets. “And you’re like, okay, it’s a two-hour line, but I’m happy to wait, as long as it’s orderly and we’re going in turn. But when I see people jumping the line, I start getting really anxious and upset. And that’s how I’m starting to feel about vaccines.”
