Just saw on CNN that the US is now ahead of Canada with positive daily Corona tests by 10 times per capita. That is insanely high number. I still think that the fact that we do not have as many large cities as you guys plays a huge role in this even though they are taking into account per capita. On the other hand I would never have guessed with the warmer weather that you guys would be so high still in July and while we both made mistakes at the start Canada definitely worked better as a nation going forward.

Also I think this really hurts Trump for those US citizens that are paying attention to what is going on in the world and to their neighbour in the north. Maybe his base is the group that is not paying attention and the needle will not move there but to look to the north and see how a pandemic could have been handled better and the results we are getting has to be something voters are looking at.
More large cities is one factor. The much larger proportion of stupid and selfish citizens and leaders also plays a huge role. Embarrassing!

Despite requirements for wearing face masks, I'm hearing a number of reports of people who refuse to wear masks in my wife's bookstore.  It blows my mind that some people are so selfish.  The skeleton crew that still works there wear a mask all day long and all.  Why is it such a big deal for someone to wear a mask for a the short period of time they are browsing or looking for a book?   This pandemic seems to bring the worst out in some people.
Luckily here in Brooklyn NY, 95% of my customers come in with masks. Anyone who doesn’t gets thrown out immediately. I have no patience for selfishness.

Don't blame you guys at all for feeling this way. Check out this article. Imagine making presumably minimum wage and putting up with this shit. Mask wearing has become politicized sadly. The misinformation and weak direction from leaders at the start of the virus did not help things either. They should have came out and said masks help. I know so many people that still think they do not since they were told this by some "Dr" on Facebook.

Humans are the worst , we have a mask requirement where I work and we just opened up on Monday of this week. I have had to ask a number of people to leave. The whole front door says " you must have a mask to enter , if you don't we would be happy to help you at our drive thru "

One lady kept saying I cant breath , so I told her you can use our drive thru , nope was the reply I want to come inside.

She put the mask on and after her pulling it down three times over the course of 3 mins I told her to leave.

I have zero tolerance and I am lucky that my company CEO has no tolerance either , he said anyone who has an issue give them his direct phone number and he will set them straight.

At this point I just see someone not wearing a mask out in public as an asshole. Sorry there really is no way around.

One frustrating thing that I’ve seen from leaders across the board is them not wearing masks when addressing the public.  What happened to “lead by example”?!?!  I don’t care if your voice sounds muffled, if you are telling people to wear masks, then you should be wearing one while addressing them.  This has become one of my new pet peeves.  Just watched a briefing from the Nee Mexico governor too and she was not wearing one...what message do they think that sends?
I have no issue with Governors or even Trump or Pence not wearing a mask when they do a presser if they handle it the way leaders like Baker here in MA does. You have your mask on when you walk into the briefing room, approach the podium, remove your mask, do your presser/Q&A with nobody anywhere close to you, and put the mask back on at the conclusion before you exit. Sends the correct message and you deliver the information clearly.

Agreed.   If outdoors and clearly able to social distance then no need for a mask.  Otherwise, a-hole.

Agreed! Trump is a narcissistic asshole. Trump doesn't wear masks indoors or around other. Don't be like Trump.

I wish the anti maskers would just stay home and have intimate relations with their relatives or pray to their Lord or polish their guns or whatever they do.
Just stay home if it bothers you so much.

Thanks for following up McGruff with that first large family you told us about that your close to.
Meltdown, is it you, that works in a greenhouse? I think it was you, so this news scares you?
Sorry the a*holes won't mask up in the bookstore Bri.
Yes, SHZA and NB, it is density as a factor.

I keep thinking of how I saw Trump say in the beginning "after this washes all over us..." Now and then I worry slightly that I have a March trip planned in San Diego.... I can't imagine living Stateside!

My Stepdad had a heart attack and stent procedure this week. Him and my Mom got negative CoVid tests. The hospital finally let in one visitor per person the same day old folks home got their visitation rights returned.

Be well, all! I'm going step up my cautiousness protocol again here as I see more tourists now.

Be careful to stay away from idiot anti-maskers!

But also be careful, as wired here basically suggests, to not believe everything you hear in the media:

‘Covid Parties’ Are Not a Thing

No, Alabama frat boys aren’t doing snot shots and betting on who can get sick first. Why does the media keep suggesting otherwise?

Chief physician Björn Olsen, professor of infectious diseases at Uppsala University is one of the sharpest critics of Sweden's corona strategy, the Public Health Authority and the state epidemiologist Tegnell.

Among other things, he and 21 other scientists wrote the debate article (op-ed) "The Public Health Authority has failed - now the politicians must intervene" on the DN debate.

The attention was huge and the article divided the Swedish scientific community.

    - After that article, it was like hot knife cutting through butter, it cut through relationships within families and between friends and colleagues. There was a clear before and after, says Olsen in the Media in P1.

After the article, he was given the role of "critic" in the media, not the one who explains things. Olsen also says that SVT (swedish television) stopped calling him. Something SVT rejects.

    - Rather, it is a sign that the issue has taken upp all the space all spring and more people are entering the debate. As journalists, we are discovering more voices, says SVT News Manager Michael Kucera.

Olsen is also critical of the media and other colleagues who commented on a wide spectrum of issues, even though it has not been their area of expertise.

    - Vaccine research experts suddenly have to comment on the various phases of the pandemic. But of course, all guesses are good. It is important to make predictions and projections and to try to predict events, but one thing people should be clear about - most people are wrong.
