PJ/Ramones lyrics and Talking Heads sound about our current cultural issues.

Oh yeah, no proud boy brainwashed voices on any of those platforms. Where ever do you true original thinkers get your info from?AVG75 said:
They're my favorite band of all time but they've phoned in the last couple albums at the last minute, piecing together bits and pieces of demos that they all work on seperately and try to work into songs, and it comes off sounding like unfinished demos and b-sides.AlaG said:
Seems like you detest them more on principle than on their delivery.AVG75 said:
yeh cause Ed's spent the last 7 years wearing a Pussy Hat, protesting with his wife and Watching Baseball...lolBF25394 said:
I detect clear themes about the folly of presuming to know the future, and the trap of failing to learn from the past.AVG75 said:After a dozen listens I gotta be honest... the lyrics make no sense, no connections to a theme or meaning...
just chanting nonsense and cliches... I guess it has a cool grove if you just learned how to play your instruments...or your drum machine.
I also hear a commentary on gender politics and differences, with a nod to the #metoo movement.
Lyrics are very cliche and Ham Fisted like everything on Lightning Bolt...
What's weak is that Ed's preaching the same shit that we hear all day and night on TV, Movies, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram... I don't need to wait 7 years to hear what's being said every day, every where you look... maybe Lizzo will open up for them...lol0 -
Great song. Musically lyrically performance production - can’t wait for album.0

EV has been preaching since he wrote "Pro Choice" on his arm during MTV unplugged in 1992. They have always been a political band. If you don't like it, don't listen to them.AVG75 said:

Hopefully not, I already know this song can be a banger in a live setting just based on the groove and ambience and general badassness of the trackAVG75 said:

I love when bands take stands or sing about current events or fight for what’s right etc... In the 1960s political music was everywhere and it still holds up today. We need musicians to speak truth to power. Too many entertainers are just out to please everyone and make money. Not my thing. I hope this album is full of protest, rage, and clever lyrics.I dislike the sound of this first track. It doesn’t sound real to me. Synth and drum machines aren’t my thing and have no true space around the instruments like a real drum in a real environment. This sounds like a plastic song to me.I would’ve loved to hear more of Ed’s vocal range as well. With respect to lyrics, it’s pretty cryptic. I think I can glean something from them but then again I don’t really know. It’s like reading tea leaves. It’s art. I get it. Looking forward to the rest of the album and the show at MSG.0

when i first heard it, i was nervous coming here. i figured there'd be about 14 closed threads about how the band is done and the song is utter garbage. you're right, it's a very positive response, and i'm glad my assumption was incorrect.Ledbetterman10 said:This is getting such a positive response. Happy for the band. Even people that aren’t into it seem to appreciate the fact that they’re at least trying something totally new.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
This will be a great shout out to culture, environment and politics. If that's not your thing, you still get the classics.Soldier Field 7-11-95, Alpine Valley 6-26-98, United Center 6-29-98, Riverport Amphitheater (St. Louis)7-2-98, MGM Grand Arena 10-22-00, Sprint Center (Kansas City)5-3-10, Adams Event Center (Missoula)9-30-12, Wrigley Field 7-19-13, Jobing.com Arena (Phoenix)11-19-13, Moda Center (Portland)11-29-13, Spokane Arena 11-30-13, Pepsi Center (Denver)10-22-14, Gila River Arena (Phoenix)5-9-22, Moody Center (Austin)9-18-23, Moody Center 9-19-23, Rogers Arena (Vancouver)5-4-24, Rogers Arena 5-6-24, MGM Grand 5-16-24, MGM Grand 5-18-24, Wrigley Field 8-29-24, Wrigley Field 8-31-24, Nashville 5-6-25, Nashville 5-8-250

I didn’t like it the first time I listened to it. Then I listened a few more times and I love it.I feel a real Television influence to the song. Marquee Moon?0

11 posts total, all of them so far used specifically to bash modern Ed and this specific song. We get the gist, you aren't a fan of the tune lolAVG75 said:
yes they have, but Ed used to spend more than 10 minutes writing lyrics compared to the constant cliches he uses now... also I remember the MTV Unplugged show very well, because I was there... douche.surforia said:

I made it through about 1/2 minute before moving on. Sorry guys, but this sounds like a bad imitation of 80's new wave with David Byrne with a scratchy throat. on vocals.

The song had been stuck in my head all day, specifically the guitar0

Can understand your points, but just so you know.... it's not a drum machine, it's "a real drum in a real environment".my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -
You have the drummer that did Jesus Christ Pose. This is like using Frank Thomas to bunt.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

I think it is rather creative how this groove started off as a drum machine creation and Matt literally recreated the vibe with it purely with his own drumset and mixing choices in post. Injecting a human element to an initial electronic creation, made to sound electronic. That is pretty metaJason P said:You have the drummer that did Jesus Christ Pose. To me real art is knowing when to pull back and lay down a groove. Doing crazy fills and polyrhythmic stuff would not best service the song at hand.Post edited by ForceofNature101 on0
