Shazam identifies songs based on an audio fingerprint based on a time-frequency graph called a spectrogram. It uses a smartphone or computer's built-in microphone to gather a brief sample of audio being played. Shazam stores a catalogue of audio fingerprints in a database. The user tags a song for 10 seconds and the application creates an audio fingerprint. Shazam works by analyzing the captured sound and seeking a match based on an acoustic fingerprint in a database of millions of songs.[6] If it finds a match, it sends information such as the artist, song title, and album back to the user. Some implementations of Shazam incorporate relevant links to services such as iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, or Groove Music.[7]
The target zone of a song scanned by Shazam.[8]Shazam can identify music being played from any source, provided that the background noise level is not high enough to prevent an acoustic fingerprint being taken, and that the song is present in the software's database.

Then again it could be that Shazam matches it to that Youtube clip. It is linked in the result it shows... oh well. I work in the biz of AI. Maybe I should call Carl-Johan and ask."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Now that I think about it, most likely the match is done towards the actual track in whatever database is hosting the song... it is just not public yet.
The Youtube link is shown under "video".
It seems that whatever track you search, you get a bunch of links to different sources of the song, related songs, etc, also including a video link to Youtube. The search result for "pearl jam dance of the clairvoyant" gives that clip as the current result.
Edit: But then again, If you search for something really obscure, Shazam might use Youtube as a source. Don't know. Parsing the title of the video
Is this Pearl Jam's new single "Dance of the Clairvoyants"? Most likely recognises Pearl Jam as a well known artist and the song title is inside "" marks.

Could be just the intro, right before guitars kick in, or a breakdown part of the song. Could be nothing PJ related at all. Good fun taking a break from all of the ticketing threads to speculate though!0

All ive seen is that it does have it's own created database with songs broken down to be able to identify. Not that it is looking at myspace and youtube for whatever sources."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

...and it seems Shazam is owned by Apple, so most likely it has access to Apple Music / iTunes or whatever it is called this week. I guess the track (if not the whole album) is there by now.
So nevermind the previous post, I'm drunk.225xxx - 6/28/00, 10/20/01, 10/22/01, 9/11/06, 9/22/06, 9/23/06, 6/18/07, 6/26/07, 8/15/09, 6/25/10, 6/30/10, 7/4/12, 7/5/12, 7/7/12, 7/10/12, 6/26/14, 6/28/14, 7/3/18, 7/5/180
