Agreed....new music (even if only a snippet) over the social media promo videos would have been great

It does seem odd.  There was a tonne of buzz on social media all yesterday evening that they could have capitalised on with a killer single.

While we're on the subject, I really hope they buck the modern trend of bands releasing half the songs from their album before it drops.  One single is fine, thanks!

i'm with you on one single...i try my hardest to avoid listening to the half albums out there and wait for the full album.  Even for big movie releases, i avoid the previews altogether.

That's a good idea if you can stick to it. I watched "Joker" with a friend the other night (I had already seen it) and during the opening scene when he's chasing the kids that stole his sign, my friend says, "They're going to hit him with the sign." He knew that from the trailer. I thought that was a shame because that was a nice "Whoa!" surprise for me on my first viewing when the kids hit him with the sign.

Amazing that they will have sold Euro and US tours and pre-orders for multi-format album and single before one note of new music has been heard...we truly are the faithful!

I think their plan here is good.  Do I wish it was out now? Of course.  But I think they did this right.

So far, they released the album, and did the fan club ticketing.  They KNOW a large portion of fanatics will buy the album without ever hearing a note.   So, they get THOSE people out of the way.

THEN, next week, when there is a public onsale....they get THOSE tickets out of the way.

If anything else remains, they drop the single, it gets more attention, and more album sales, and if there are any leftover seats, then those get sold.

All of the Star Wars movies in recent years, i've completely avoided all trailers and spoilers to just watch it fresh and its more enjoyable.

I wonder why you can’t find the release date of the single anywhere else. Anyway here is a screenshot of the mail I’ve received Tuesday (although it’s in german). So it’s a bit more official 😉. You can follow artists on Universal Music and get notifications when there’s something new. I guess that’s why I’ve received this. So it seems it has nothing to do with ordering the Album over Universal. Says something like “Also the title of the first single which will be released on January 21st is known: Dance of the Clairvoyants”

  • This is a real stretch but I’ll throw it out there... Bill Simmons usually starts his podcast by saying “but first our friends from Pearl Jam” and playing the intro to a live version of Corduroy. On his Thursday 1/16 podcast he says at the 2 minute mark “but first some new music” and plays this funky new wave sounding tune with a strong bass line and synthesizers, which I think lines up with some rumors of how the album will sound.

Could it be a snippet of the new single? It does not sound like something I would expect from Pearl Jam, so it’s probably not. But just thought I’d throw it out there to see what others think.

Just listened to it. I think you’re really on to something here. It would be a cool way to tease the single without teasing the single. Almost an Easter egg. My first reaction is that there’s no way it’s them, because I can’t picture Eddie singing over it, but my gut tells me it’s them. Now I can’t wait to see if it is or not. Would be a bigger departure than anyone would have ever expected.

Just listed to Eminem’s “Darkness”. I hope Pearl Jam have something important to say after 7 years )Hell 29 years). Making music and being creative is great, but having something important to express is what kept me connected to their music for almost 30 years. Hoping I still connect to the new music.
