Greta Thunberg

Oh I recall it well. There were a few threads where if you dissed “Antifa”, you were labeled a fascist (not going to name names). It’s been a while, but it was when the “Proud Boy” dipshits were fighting the “Antifa” dipshits at every other protest. It is still going on, but thankfully both groups seem to be losing support.HughFreakingDillon said:

I think there was some confusion about the two for a while...On the topic of Greta, though, shouldn’t we all be in support of children trying to be vocal and assertive, whether or not you fully agree with them? What kind of example does it set for our youth when grown ups call them names or berate them for being young and stupid or trying to force them to be quiet? I have a few reserves about whether Greta is a victim of child exploitation, but that’s beside the fact that we should be encouraging children to be leaders and stand for something.I hope that Greta continues fighting for a cleaner world, if that is truly her passion. Shame on any adult that goes out of their way to try and shut up a 16 year old or make fun of how they look. Shame on any adults that try and exploit a 16 year old. Respect to the youth that try to make a stand for what they feel is the right thing to do.
I don't recall, however, antifa supporters here saying the two were interchangeable.Post edited by PJPOWER on0 -
If she were truly a political pawn, I would not attack her, but the people that were exploiting her.Spiritual_Chaos said:
Attacking her for "being a pawn" or "that she should focus on school instead" or as seen in this thread "she's could be a terrorist, who knows, just my opinion" (not pointing fingers at you) is the same as republicans attacking the process of the impeachment.PJPOWER said:Funny, it wasn’t too long ago that the Antifa supporters here were saying that “Antifa” (as a club of pussies) and “Anti-fascist” (what we all should be) were the same, but I digress. It is bullshit behavior from people who's so stuck with their "team" looking for something, whatever, anything to attack to not have to step out of their teams line and admit that the other team got it right.
Not that the environment or a young girl using her time and energy to stand up for something should be a team issue. or something to look for reasons to attack.I fully agree with your last paragraph.0 -
I think we all should just chill and listen to Greta sing death metal:

Maybe I was in those discussions or I was not. But there is a chasm between people proclaiming they are nazis and people who's going out against that. Even if they are dipshits going against that using violence and being idiots. Whatever they might do - they are not saying Hitler was an alright guy and let us all continue and follow through with his grand plan.PJPOWER said:

A chasm of difference.
I'd rather play poker with a dipshit who threw a bottle at a nazi, than playing poker with a nazi having a scar on his face from getting a bottle thrown at him for sieg heiling and screaming "jews will not replace us". The antifa-diship will hopefully one day realise that using violence and shit is idiotic, the other guy believed we should gas people who are not looking like the boy on the swedish caviar tube:
Anyone saying otherwise or "both siding" that is awful. No matter how much of an idiot anyone in Antifa (or any other bullshit organisation/movement whatever) is. And no matter how much you want to throw shade at them. Bothsiding that and not finding in themselves to note that difference is just awful.Post edited by Spiritual_Chaos on"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -

Would he have rathered spent time with Greta Thunberg, or someone calling a 16 year old girl and her mom defacto terrorists for not digging fascism?mcgruff10 said:My grandfather killed a lot of fascists in 44/45; I wonder if world war 2 vets support Antifa."Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0 -
Does the antifa discussion really belong on the Greta Thunberg thread? I for one don't think so. The t-shirt thing is over, she is not a member of Antifa, this is about global warming. Like Paul and Juliana said...

Again with the age. It either matters or it doesn’t. I’m not listening to a regular 16 year old on this shit. So don’t try and tel me to listen to her and then use her she as some sort of reason to treat her with “kids gloves”, etc.josevolution said:

Ok I’m surprised at the reaction from these two anti Greta posters , the ones acting like kids are the haters , you gave to put in perspective that she’s a young adult being chided by adults ...ok there I didn’t use her agecincybearcat said:

Thoughts_Arrive said:A 16 year old causing so many climate deniers to melt like snowflakes.LOLI wish their doubts would melt. The scientific evidence is overwhelming. It seems nearly impossible to me that anyone would deny not only that global warming is real, but that the current rapid rate of climate change is anthopogenically caused by human activity involving the release of vast amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. How did people become so obtuse about basic science?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

i don't think that's what he meant. i think he meant that greta is no regular 16 year old, so people defending her should stop playing that card. i mean, i agree with him. you can't on one hand tell us to respect and listen to this person (which i do) but then claim she is immune from criticism. that's having your cake and eating it too.brianlux said:cincybearcat said:

i don't condone the shit being said about her. but the defense should not be "she's a child! leave her alone!". it should be "stop being such an asshole!" like it is for every other person in the public eye.
to me the barron trump thing was blown way out of proportion (no one ever criticized him, just used him as a play on words criticizing idiot), but people comparing the two situations is ridiculous. if barron put himself out there like, say, donald's sons, fine, criticize away. greta is looking to be treated as an adult. it's funny to me, i haven't seen one thing from her saying "leave me alone, i'm just a child". it's all the leftie commentators.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -

I guess I tend to give a lot more slack to any young person looking at their future, a future in which everyone has been telling them (and surely often rightly so) that they are heading into maelstrom that has never been navigated before. They see the way the world is moving and they don't know if it will be a long grind into the dirt, an undulation of ever worsening difficulties interspersed with occasional respites, or something godawful and catastrophic. Completely right or wrong, what they generally see is a life of ever-greatening difficulties, difficulties greater than what the last few or more previous generations have had deal with. And I feel like hell for them because even at my lowest (which was pretty low), that low was an individual trial, not a generational one.And it shouldn't be just about exemplar messenger. Greta Thunberg represents the concerns, anxiety even, of a whole group of younger people and young adults. During the 1950's, when I was a kid and we were drilled regularly to duck under our desks in preparation for nuclear annihilation due to nuclear war, if a kid in his mid teens had stood up for us and said, "You people need to get your shit together and do something about this impending catastrophe that you created!", we would have had a similar hero. Heroes are fallible, but without them, we are that much more alone."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
you twisting yourself up with this lack of logic to reeeeach for something to dismiss just because, just comes off as rather pointless.cincybearcat said:
