Ha, I hope that psycho is not allowed around children...
I think the way they are exploiting Greta Thunberg's youth does not help the cause much.
I think AOC does a much better job getting the message out particularly when she's Fielding questions and concerns as she does in the above video.  I think Greta makes it look like the climate change activist are desperate for a spokes person.  I don't think  Greta is prepared to answer a person like the Above video
I will give props to AOC maintaining her composure in that situation, I don’t think I could have, lol
And I don't have anything against Greta Thunberg, on the flip side, it appears to some that the climate change movement is using her age and disability as a weapon to promote it's side of the debate.  Nothing against Greta but I think AOC is a better bet, if you're trying to win people over.

RYME, climate change is not a movement and there are no "sides".  It is reality. There should be no need for debate at this point in time, only combined and unified action.
Proposed remedies are definitely in dispute.

    Which ones?
Do we need to eat babies?

    Of course we do.

    a)  Doing so helps reduce population = fewer cars, less consumption, etc.
    b) Babies are a delicacy

I don't know what is so controversial about all that.
How do you like your babies Brian?
    Over easy?
    Scrambled?
    Poached?
    Hard boiled?
    Soft Boiled?

    LOL

What's really strange about that video is that it's hard to tell if that lady is trying to be a comedian keeping a straight face or if she is just plain wackado.  Bad comedy, unsettling craziness.

But, oh how we digress here, haha!

climate change denier refers to people who believe the climate is not impacted significantly by humans. so, by that definition, yes, you are a climate change denier.

    Fair enough HFD.
Why do you think The Divide on all subjects is so right down the middle on virtually everything with not much wiggle room?

    1. God - No god
    2. Consertive - Leftist
    3. Pro Gun rights - Anti gun rights
    4. Pro Police - Anti police
    5. Anti Kaepernick - Pro Kaepernick
    6. Patriotism - globalism
    7. Pro-lifers - Pro abortionists
    8. Pro Trumpers - Trump haters
    9. Climate change is natural - man-made climate change we're all doomed, every human is guilty by default for sucking air.
    10. Capitalism free market - socialism Etc
    11. Non enlightend - enlightened
    12. Pro fossil fuel energy pro nuclear energy - we all need to live in population centers and ride bicycles for transportation.
    13. Small government - big government
Im sure there's more i can't think of right now.
*I understand that I'm in the minority in this forum.  But what's amazing to me is we differ on almost everything A-Z.
I made a positive comment about AOC, and/but I still got called out & challeged.
That's cool.  Its a fun challenge for me to try to find just 1 sliver of common ground on something.  Even if I don't support AOC, I respect her and enjoy listening to her when she speaks.  I like Greta Thunberg, she looks like a nice girl.  I dont like the way The Left is using & exploiting her to advance Whatever the cause is. ________?

    Yes they do
And is it just me or do the 2 anti-Greta people seem very much alike in what they post?
    Coincidence??
It’s funny that the two anti Greta posters are reacting like this because of a 16yr old getting her time in limelight!
Again with the age. It either matters or it doesn’t. I’m not listening to a regular 16 year old on this shit. So don’t try and tel me to listen to her and then use her she as some sort of reason to treat her with “kids gloves”, etc.

    So tired of this.

Greta is no regular 16 year old!

But you're right about global warming being shit!
i don't think that's what he meant. i think he meant that greta is no regular 16 year old, so people defending her should stop playing that card. i mean, i agree with him.  you can't on one hand tell us to respect and listen to this person (which i do) but then claim she is immune from criticism. that's having your cake and eating it too.

i don't condone the shit being said about her. but the defense should not be "she's a child! leave her alone!". it should be "stop being such an asshole!" like it is for every other person in the public eye.

to me the barron trump thing was blown way out of proportion (no one ever criticized him, just used him as a play on words criticizing idiot), but people comparing the two situations is ridiculous. if barron put himself out there like, say, donald's sons, fine, criticize away. greta is looking to be treated as an adult. it's funny to me, i haven't seen one thing from her saying "leave me alone, i'm just a child". it's all the leftie commentators.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, I do  It's true, everyone has their faults.  I guess I tend to give a lot more slack to any young person looking at their future, a future in which everyone has been telling them (and surely often rightly so) that they are heading into maelstrom that has never been navigated before.  They see the way the world is moving and they don't know if it will be a long grind into the dirt, an undulation of ever worsening difficulties interspersed with occasional respites, or something godawful and catastrophic.  Completely right or wrong, what they generally see is a life of ever-greatening difficulties, difficulties greater than what the last few or more previous generations have had deal with.  And I feel like hell for them because even at my lowest (which was pretty low), that low was an individual trial, not a generational one.

And it shouldn't be just about exemplar messenger.  Greta Thunberg represents the concerns, anxiety even, of a whole group of younger people and young adults.  During the 1950's, when I was a kid and we were drilled regularly to duck under our desks in preparation for nuclear annihilation due to nuclear war,  if a kid in his mid teens had stood up for us and said, "You people need to get your shit together and do something about this impending catastrophe that you created!", we would have had a similar hero.  Heroes are fallible, but without them, we are that much more alone.
I find it funny that people thought that ducking and covering would protect them from a nuclear bomb detonation.

Yup!  Since the world will be inhabitable 13 years from now, we want to spare them that misery.  So we might as well eat the babies.

Thanks for the reply, RYME.  Here are my thoughts on these points:

Taxing Farmers that raise livestock & food:  Agreed, more taxing is not the answer.  I believe ins supporting family farms (not big ag).  My brother has been a farmer for many years.  I'm all for farmers.  I do however, believe eating less meat would help a lot.

Suggesting we should now cross the oceans in rowboats instead of ships or airplanes.  An even better idea for less carbon output for crossing the oceans is simple- SWIM!  LOL, but seriously, I do think it would help if not as many people flew.  I never never take airplanes.

Get around town like The Flintstones.  The Flintsones had personal vehicles and left dirt foot toe jam all over the road.  Today we have hybrid and electric vehicles which is an improvement.  But we could do more walking, ride sharing and use public transit more which would also help.

Suggesting people shouldn't have kids anymore.  Well, how about having fewer kids and adopting more?  I had no kids, but helped raise a few.  My wife had one scratch baby but help raise several kids in need.

Outlawing things like wood stoves.  I've never heard of wood stoves being outlawed but there are restrictions on their use during high level pollution days ion places like Sacramento.  If you lived in my neck of the woods you might also wish wood stove use was not so great.  My eyes are burning as I write this, not from wild fires but from the ubiquitous wood burning in my area.  It is just plain awful!

As for the cause of climate change, I don't have anything to add other than all the many things I've posted on that.  I would recommend spending some time checking out NOAA and realclimate.org.

    Thanks for listening, RYME.

    Thats good stuff Brian.
Yes I'm all for family farms as well.  Unfortunately there's probably a not enough of them to produce enough food for the masses.
Say Brian, did you hear anything about an almond farmer in California that got shut down by the California DNR or EPA?  A man came out to this multigenerational almond Farm dressed in a sport coat and a loose-fitting tie  clipboard in hand , to inspect the farm.  The man noticed There was some deep standing water around the farmer's tractor.  The guy said you cannot Farm almonds here anymore because of these navigable waterways that's your tractor is ruining.   The farmer argued saying "that's not a navigable  Waterway sir, those are ruts from my tractor, admitting that they are pretty deep pretty bad and it's been wet around here lately.   I go the same way out and back in the same ruts so I don't produce more unnecessary ruts, but I've got to access the the almond trees throughout the farm somehow".
The DNR or EPA guy said sorry you can't Farm almonds here anymore.  Your tractor is damaging navigable waterways sir.
Did you hear about this? The article did not tell how this all ended.
But harassing almond Growers seems like not the right way to go about protecting the environment.  Mistaking tractor routes for waterways??

It was meant to calm people down, government never thought it was going to be effective against a nuclear weapon.

    Which ones?
Sorry for my delayed response I was driving my semi truck last few hours.
Unrealistic regulations.  Taxing Farmers that raise livestock & food for us all because animals shit and fart.., and raising crops takes a lot of damn diesel to put it in a and harvest at all.  Why would you stick it to the farmers?   Im not being flip.
Suggesting we should now cross the oceans in rowboats instead of ships or airplanes.
Get around town like The Flintstones.
Suggesting people shouldn't have kids anymore because there will be no Earth by the time they turn 16.   The urge to create panic over everything.  We've only got 13 years left you know.
Outlawing things like wood stoves.  Basic Essentials for life.  Mankind has used fire to stay alive and cook since the beginning of time.
I'm not a climate change denier climate changes all the time, but it didn't start 50 years ago, decade decade to decade Century to Century it varies.  I don't think man has to do with it.  I think if there was Zero vehicles or carbon emissions,  The temperature here right now would still be 27 degrees with Cloudy Skies it's December, and whatever is doing today wherever you live.
I think  ice caps and Glaciers have a long history of expanding and diminishing back and forth, on the rocking horse of time.
It's amazing the number of people that promote this stuff buy and live on ocean front property.
If the seas are going to rise so much why would you do that?
    https://robbreport.com/shelter/homes-for-sale/obamas-marthas-vineyard-estate-15-million-2865341/
climate change denier refers to people who believe the climate is not impacted significantly by humans. so, by that definition, yes, you are a climate change denier.
"you are a climate change denier"
    You know labels limit discussion.
I prefer clarity over winning an argument.
I toss out a few of my opinions, they dont match up with man-made climate change alarmists, so apply the label. Discussion closed.  You have demonstrated throughout these discussions that you're a reasonable guy HFD.
It's not that black and white.  There is a massive grey area that labelers are overlooking.  Human existence creates pollution that I agree with.  Many many measures have been taken to keep Air & Water as clean as possible.  It's not like all the problems are being ignored.
Why are we all guilty by defult?
The Earth has been here for billions of years.
So I give you, this song to ponder.
Its about color Grey. I hope you give it a listen.

it's not all right down the middle. I think we all fall on different parts of the spectrum on any given issue, but yeah, if you force someone to choose between black and white without the benefit of explaining if they are in fact grey, then that's the perception you're going to have.

Sure, it's debatable. But what does US domestic policy have a better track record of doing: calming everyone down or instilling fear?

How chill were those cold war kids? How groovy was everyone after that? How copacetic were we around the turn of the century? How calm is everyone feeling these days?

Why do you think The Divide on all subjects is so right down the middle on virtually everything with not much wiggle room?

    1. God - No god
    2. Consertive - Leftist
    3. Pro Gun rights - Anti gun rights
    4. Pro Police - Anti police
    5. Anti Kaepernick - Pro Kaepernick
    6. Patriotism - globalism
    7. Pro-lifers - Pro abortionists
    8. Pro Trumpers - Trump haters
    9. Climate change is natural - man-made climate change we're all doomed, every human is guilty by default for sucking air.
    10. Capitalism free market - socialism Etc
    11. Non enlightend - enlightened
    12. Pro fossil fuel energy pro nuclear energy - we all need to live in population centers and ride bicycles for transportation.
    13. Small government - big government
Im sure there's more i can't think of right now.
*I understand that I'm in the minority in this forum.  But what's amazing to me is we differ on almost everything A-Z.
I made a positive comment about AOC, and/but I still got called out & challeged.
That's cool.  Its a fun challenge for me to try to find just 1 sliver of common ground on something.  Even if I don't support AOC, I respect her and enjoy listening to her when she speaks.  I like Greta Thunberg, she looks like a nice girl.  I dont like the way The Left is using & exploiting her to advance Whatever the cause is. ________?

it's not all right down the middle. I think we all fall on different parts of the spectrum on any given issue, but yeah, if you force someone to choose between black and white without the benefit of explaining if they are in fact grey, then that's the perception you're going to have.

and as for your #7: NO ONE IS PRO ABORTION.

    Ok fair enough.
#7. pro lifers vs fill in the blank ________.
    (Whatever the opposite is)
My point was I think there's a lot of gray in between the two sides on all these issues, but it's really hard to find any common ground when the labels start coming out of the printer.

  • Thank you Ryme for the most reasonable clear statements I have read here in a long time...and for  sharing the music... music that brings light to me on this colourful and somewhat grey day...peace and love to you all...

ironic then, to me, that you made a list of all said labels.

really?? whatever the opposite is? it's pro choice. it's giving women power over their own bodies. you think for one solitary second that if men gave birth that this would even be an issue?

    Ummm yes, there are.

Nevermind, the labels are counter productive anyhow. You can pick multiple labels that basically mean the same thing it some are offensive and other preferred. Just like your use of climate change deniers. Accurate? Hmmmm perhaps. Man-made climate change denier? Accurate? More likely. But denier carries a certain connotation with it that just offends.

Hahahaha this is a solid point about making a list of labels. Everyone prejudice will come into play when making their own list.

As for your last question...do these men have morals? If so, yes it’s an issue. But since most politicians lack morals, probably no.
