Milwaukee and Detroit being out, along with no shows in Indiana, has me thinking Lollapalooza may have pulled off the booking. All of those places would traditionally fall under their radius clause, which they would certainly enforce for a huge get like Pearl Jam.

The only caveat is that St. Louis right on the cusp of that roughly 300 mile radius, and it sounds like they may get a show. It's the furthest of the cities listed though, and Lolla may not care if it's a spring stop since it will likely be sold out and maybe even have happened before they officially announce the Chicago line-up.
Detroit definitely is not under their radius clause. Pretty sure Milwaukee isn’t either.
They've loosened enforcement quite a bit in recent years given some legal investigations, but those cities are absolutely within the documented 300 miles that they seek to keep exclusive. So yes, some acts play Summerfest or do arena dates earlier in the year, but those are exceptions and not the standard.

Some have also occurred because of late bookings or make-up dates (see Ariana Grande last year who had to restructure her tour and delay Midwest dates into the summer to accommodate a very late add to the Coachella line-up).
Most bands, especially the less known bands, that plays lolla plays Detroit/Grand Rapids within a couple days. The last 4-5 years anyway.
Not that the Arctic Monkeys are close to PJ fame, still a huge band, they played Detroit the night before their headlining gig couple years back.
But is PJ really going to pick lollapalooza if they can play Wrigley, I doubt it.

As I said, enforcement in recent years mostly pertains to top of the bill acts that Lolla banks on to sell single days and 4-day passes. The smaller acts you described have definitely gotten a lot more freedom to take bookings.

And like everyone, I'm just speculating based on the tea leaves here. PJ have obviously made plenty of Chicago stops of late while ignoring the surrounding states, so it's not a clear indicator of any commitment. That said, given their desire to play blue states before the election (and Wisconsin and Michigan should certainly be big considerations if that's a criteria), their potential show in STL showing their active in the region, and the EU Lolla dates, there's a bit more smoke there than usual.

Just to add to the MN speculation re-posting the text I received from a friend in August:

"Just a note on your favorite band Pearl Jam.  I had a presentation at Mystic Lake today and they had a list of meetings for the big conference room we were in.  After us at 11 was a marketing meeting regarding Pearl Jam."

I’m sure they’ll be all over Texas when I’m in Japan in March.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

I wonder what the surprise will be that Mike was talking about in that recent RS interview!?
Is the surprise the new album tour or something else that will blow us away?

  • I would nominate snoop dog to be the official guide for slow people entering concert venues.  hoping they play some new places in the US next year.  Tired of ballpark shows....spent more time in lines than enjoying the show.

That's a shame. The Wrigley shows are my favorites. I have always walked in without waiting in line (GA only) and the only standing around is rain delay or waiting for show to start.

I think Dimi is going to be the one that is most excited for these dates to finally drop.
Yeah people can stop pestering him at that point.
Call me crazy, but I think he just might like the attention?
    I think he:

    A. Likes Pearl Jam. (likes may be just a bit of an understatement)
    2. Likes most of the other fans here.
Thirdly. Likes being able to help/give folks a glimmer of what he knows without betraying a source.
Last. Likes having some fun while we wait for official word.
    This weekend we rock Portland

Toronto in April tough to schedule as Raptors and Leafs should be in the playoffs . Show could get bumped again like 2016. Hoping it's not Roger's centre.

The issue in 2016 was that it was back-to-back shows and the second show got pushed.  They will schedule a single date during the playoffs and guarantee the date.  Also, no one said this was April.  It could be March, when they have a busy schedule but no up-in-the-air dates due to Raptors & Leafs playoff games.
