I'd personally like to know how many things were recorded during what I'll call the "Can't Deny Me" sessions....
Can't Deny Me is the only song completed and recorded from that session. Many other songs played, instrumental ones.
it is particularly precise information! maybe it's not just JA, MMC, SG, EV, and MC who know ...

DJ on 92.5 in Boston last night around 6:30 mentioned new Pearl Jam was coming...but then said some people are talking about a double album, some people are saying a November release, some are saying later...and it was quite clear his "source" was either this board or AltNation's summation of this board. It was kinda funny to hear.
If he mentioned anything about the fan club single being late then we know he got his info here.

  • Look look at it this way, 11 albums in 30 years is like 2 years and 9 months between albums (on the average)

I doubt it.  I think Pearl Jam is on Island time.... lol.

Ie.. they do stuff at the pace they feel like doing stuff.  While stuff might happen few and far between I think it'll go on as long as they can?  I always saw them as having Stones/Springsteen/U2/Metallica kind of longevity.

Maybe with regards to longevity but if past performance is any indication, their path is much different than Bruce or the Stones was when in their 50s. Maybe PJ would entertain  a thinly scheduled tour or two post 65? Given their sparse touring lately it's tough to visualize them wanting to do much more than that 10 years from now.

Bruce averaged 58 shows per year when he was in his 50s and the Stones U2 and Metalica were around 40 or more shows. There is some truth to when you have the choice you prioritize what you want.

Lets just say they were late bloomers. Dark Side of the Moon was their eighth album, and the rest is history.

I think the further back you go, the more frequent bands release albums.    It's crazy to look at some of the output of older bands:

The Beatles put out 12 albums in 8 years
The Doors whole career was in 4 years with 6 albums

I'm sure the list could go on.    I chose those two for easy support of my argument.

I actually wonder about today's musicians.  Not all tracks from classic rock bands are genius.   Some times it's the shear quantity.  A few solid tracks on every album, and you've got a bunch of albums, you can make a steller setlist.

Bands of today seem less frequent with albums.  As per this thread PJ in their first 10 years were pretty prolific but still less than a number of 60's bands.   Bands of today make money touring, so albums can be sparse.   Problem is bands seem to make their best music in their earlier years.   If you're not putting out albums how do you get to that point where you can rock out for 2-3 hours with amazing songs every one knows.

there was also the band dynamic that shifted in power 3 times to where The Wall came in. that makes a difference I would think.

I agree, once Waters took over conceptually they became what they are known for.
