Stay away from discogs for a while, the vultures are out there trying to capitalize.
    I'm not surprised. Ugh.

Gutted by this and thinking of his family and friends. He deserved way more coverage and attention than he got, his music was just full of so much soul and sincerity.
Am so pleased I got to meet him once and to thank him.

I woke up to the news on Saturday morning and was absolutely devastated. It was the very first thing I saw when I opened Facebook. I had to put the phone down and shed a few tears. Shawn was my favorite Seattle singer. He was also an amazing and beautiful soul. He was humble, gentle, insightful, introspective and kind. He was always happy to stop and chat. I was lucky to see him perform many, many times in various bands/projects from Brad, Satchel, Pigeonhed, solo, Mother Love Bone celebrations, etc... A sweeter voice didn't exist in the Seattle music scene. I will miss him. I had Shawn write out lyrics to The Day Brings as an anniversary gift to my wife a couple of years ago. That has now become one of our most cherished possessions. I sincerely hope he felt the love we had for him when he was alive, and am happy to see such outpouring of love and respect now that he has passed.

I also can't help but think if he didn't live in this fucked up country with its fucked up health care, that he might have been with us longer. Shawn, as many other talented and underappreciated musicians do, struggled to pay the rent at times, which I'm sure meant sacrificing health care. When you have to choose between food and a roof over your head, or a doctor visit and prescriptions/procedures, you choose food and shelter. Shawn was active in SMASH which is an organization that provides health care assistance to Seattle musicians who can't afford care. Might be a good time to consider supporting SMASH or similar organizations, and also think about your vote in 2020 for  candidates who might prioritize improving our abysmal health care system in this country.

Anyway, I am sad beyond words but take comfort in the music he left behind. RIP Shawn.
    Beautiful post.

Thank you for letting us know about SMASH - I wasn't aware of it.

So crazy to see the timing of this [4/05].
Just as other misinformation spread so soon after his passing (like the whole diabetes thing), he did not pass on 4/5. He was found on 4/5. He was last heard from on 4/2, I believe, and didn't show up to the studio on 4/3 which was not like him.

Saw him play in the UK the day after Chris Cornell died, was magical and I do feel blessed to have been able to see him - his music is beautiful and I'm a little heartbroken to hear the news. Will be spinning The Family later.

Shawn performed in San Francisco with a band named Stenner Glen last September. They played "For So Long" from The Family. I got to thank Shawn for playing that song after the show, as it's one of my favorites. Love that whole album.

Nice, that's a great song. Was San Francisco his last ever show?

    My bad.

Like I said - (and... not that it’s all that important given the magnitude of his passing) I stumbled onto the article in the Seattle Times which states 04/05:

    https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/soulful-seattle-singer-shawn-smith-dead-at-53/

Regardless of when, the bottom line is that it still sucks that he’s gone.

Have been seeing PJ and their related projects/bands since 98. I feel like his passng is yet another reminder that all ‘this’ is temporary and fleeting (none of us are getting any younger). So enjoy the moment(s) while you can. :-)

WOW. So sad. This really hits close to home. Buttercup voice, kind and gentle soul. Too young. So glad I saw Brad quite a few times. Extreme condolences to his family, and Stone and Regan. Tears.

Beautiful tribute video from Lance Mercer:

Here's a video I put together for his memorial, thanks to all that contributed content, and for allowing me to use it.
